Re: The flow of new members

Greetings. As far as new members go, I├óÔé¼Ôäóm as new as I can be. This was probably the second thread I├óÔé¼Ôäóve read once I got here for the first time, and even though I├óÔé¼Ôäóm not sure I should be posting here at such an early stage, I will. As Sinistra has pointed out right at the beginning, here on JvS things are done quite differently than what I am used to. I├óÔé¼Ôäóve begun Rping in the SW genre a few years ago, and I had never encountered a place that was ran the way this one is. It is not a bad thing, it is just different and as such, for a new member it can be quite confusing and daunting. I├óÔé¼Ôäód mention this from the get go just too clear things up for new members.

As some have already stated you do have several Guides, Rules, and whatnot scattered through several categories. There is much to read, but all of it is quite necessary in order for a new member to fully understand what is actually going on. To me that is a good thing, however, there should be a central Topic comprised of all of these Guides, Rules and all that. I├óÔé¼Ôäóve come to know a few Rpers along the few years I have been Rping, and I know of quite a few that wouldn├óÔé¼Ôäót care to go through all of it without a compass. And these are usually the best I have seen so far. Something like the Welcome to JvS! Topic in the New Players├óÔé¼Ôäó Forum, but expanded would work quite well for that purpose. Perhaps make it more visible to the untrained eye, since it is the last Topic in that Forum.

Before I forget, the Guardian Angel program is something that should be more out in the open. It should definitely be mentioned a few more times throughout the place, so as to direct said new members towards these helpful members of this community. Without Anven├óÔé¼Ôäós help, I├óÔé¼Ôäóm not sure how I would have been able to fully understand so many of the differences here on JvS.

I├óÔé¼Ôäóm merely speaking from the perspective of someone that has joined this place just a few hours ago, I simply wish to provide that perspective. I sincerely hope no one takes offense to what I am pointing out. I understand that some of these points have already been mentioned previously in this Topic, but I think they should be emphasized as they would greatly benefit the Site as a whole in regards to getting new members.

As far as Advertising goes, I├óÔé¼Ôäód recommend more places than just RPG-D and those sites to vote at. I├óÔé¼Ôäóm not sure if the places I will mention below have already been approached for this effect, but even if they have I├óÔé¼Ôäóll post them here.

Rest assured, we are indeed taking notice. :)

Welcome to JvS Kandar! May I ask how exactly you heard about us? I'm personally rather curious as to your experience here in general, first impressions, and etcetera. Speak freely and openly - your comments don't make offense, nor will anyone here take them as such. As a new member, if anything, your input is the most valuable.

PS: Good to see another Firrerreo running around!

Truth be told, we had been looking into these sites for advertising and we have been taking a more 'waffling' approach to them. But the fact that you have brought them up reassures us that perhaps the venture would be fruitful. We appreciate your suggestions and will take them into serious considerations. If you have anything else you would like to add, please feel free to do so.

Re: The flow of new members

I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome. It├óÔé¼Ôäós always nice to feel welcomed. As for how I├óÔé¼Ôäóve happened to come across JvS is rather simple really, you guys posted in RPG-D and I came to check it out. This particular Directory of Rp├óÔé¼Ôäós is very good in doing just that, only Caution 2.0 comes close to it. To be quite honest I didn├óÔé¼Ôäót know what to think when I first arrived. In order to view everything, I had to register my account which in itself is not negative, but some prospective members out there might not feel that way.

Overall my first impression was one of utter confusion. As I├óÔé¼Ôäóve said before, I had never seen a place that operates in this manner. However, it was because of exactly that, that I was intrigued by it. Some other things that drew me in were the Guardian Angel program and the Player├óÔé¼Ôäós Guide Code of Conduct. I felt that perhaps these parts of the board deserved more attention and mentions throughout the several parts of the Forum.

I came to the conclusion that in order to safely navigate through these waters, I needed someone to guide me along. And that├óÔé¼Ôäós not something I like to admit, I pride myself on being as independent as I can, but I just couldn├óÔé¼Ôäót. I feel that JvS has an identity that is lacking on other SW related Sites, but perhaps it would be best to emphasize those parts that make JvS unique in order to draw some of these people in. Because quite honestly, I needed someone to explain to me directly in order to fully comprehend a few things here.

I├óÔé¼Ôäóve come to know a lot of excellent writers and Rpers that love this genre, and they always say the same thing. There are no long lived communities that pride themselves in telling a story in this genre anymore. You guys do. I just had to dig through several parts of the Forum to find that out.

Whill Sahn, it does not surprise me in the slightest that these sites were already being considered. Personally I feel that an Advertisement is good everywhere and anywhere. Some of the best places I├óÔé¼Ôäóve been on so far, I found them on the Ad list of other sites themselves. These Directories and RPG listings are even better, even if you get only one member out of them, it is worth it.

Again, I apologize if for some reason I annoyed anyone. It is not my intention whatsoever.

Thank you, and take care.
