The flow of new members

As we have a twitter about site info... Why not have a JvS HNN twitter to accompany it? Keep the currently existing one for OOC news or site updates etc, and use the HNN one as a sort of live bulletin of IC news.

Just my tupence of ideas being thrown out there.

That was what I was thinking Kirus and yes I also agree that one of the higher ups should for sure have access to it, but someone (not necessarily me) also have the ability to use it so not to trouble the whills with it all the time.

here's my opinion to this. i was here when this site moved from the facebook days. Had a lot of fun then. but real life caught up to me so i had to leave. I have tried to come back several times. The problem i found at this was that the people i used to rp with had left. which i don't mind that much so i would make a new character and throw them out to see if anyone wanted to rp with me. On a few occasions i got rping with other and we go along well. but on many other occasions like the last year or so when i try to come back i make a character get someone to rp with and we start then they just vanish with out a word.

It started on FB. 80% people here found it on Facebook, other 20% got sucked in by their friends, who either saw it on FB or were sucked in themselves by their own friends which saw it on FB. The pending logical answer (since the old group is getting, well, old and disused), is to create a new group and advertise as much as you can. It worked once, and if anything, people are more susceptible to clicking on any given sh*t that appears on their feed. Don't count on getting more members through the old page, and advertising on TOR... well, it's kind of like trying to get an action movie freak to read 'Socrates' defense'.

That said, the interface is not user friendly. Loads of people had loads of helpful input and loads of good will to create a system (or a guide) which would make the site less challenging for new members but I think I'd still have massive where-and-what-andWTF problems if I was a newcomer.

Personally, I believe the influx over the years was most certainly caused by the Facebook base that JvS had going. Over time, little by little, people who preferred the Facebook version converted to the site, giving the appearance of a steady increase of new members. Also, I think the "new" member count might have been over exaggerated. It's true that new accounts were created all the time, but I think that it was generally the same amount of actual writers who were actually creating those accounts. The real question you should be asking is what happened to those writers?

If you want more new writers, however, I'd follow Leto's advice and create a new group on Facebook, or at least make the current JvS page (if there is one) more active. Making the site more user friendly would probably help in the long run, though I'm not an expert in that area.

These are great ideas. So if I'm correct, Leto you're proposing to have a new FB group for JvS created? And that would potentially stimulate new interest from the app to 1.5? If so that's a good idea but there is one issue and it's that the JvS app on FB has been stagnating a bit (at least since the last time I checked) and it has a LOT of bugs a lot of people left the app out of frustration to the bugs.

Well I know I frequented the app almost every day, back on a sick day I spent like 8 hours on it doing nothing but answering questions for it. The bugs are pretty much crippling as I cant even see the app anymore no matter how much I try. Last I heard from the last bastion of people still on it we all pretty much stopped using it after a Sithspit Makashii tournament.

And theres not much we can do about that except to consult the creators of the app. I know Furas had some ideas to completely revamp the app and add a bunch of new features but never got around to finishing it. The bugs came from FB changes and the 3 devs are hard pressed for time to fix them it seems. If only we could help them out somehow... but how?

Why not start from the ground up and completely redo the app? Seems like it'd be easier than patching it up in order to fit in with all the new facebook updates. Those'll only be band-aides, after all.

Everything to do with the JvS app would be something to discuss with Furas, but I don't know of an efficient way of contacting him. I'd really like to though. If anyone knows of a good way how, lemme know.

In the mean time, there are a lot of REALLY good ideas and suggestions here so far. We should put some more of these to fruition.

I thought the idea of having HNN material posted on the twitter account was a great idea, but as far as I can see none of that has made it on? It's mostly just about the preferred players and OOC SW things.

That is a great idea Ramiel. We should do that. Incorporate the HNN in there.
