The flow of new members

The problem with the idea of advertising on other RP sites is that most of them will want us to advertise theirs in return and JvS doesn't advertise other sites, there's even a rule against it.

That would be where Whill input would come in.

Hey Jair I just had me an idea. Why not create another JvS twitter to get those "cool cats" in on it. Something like a smaller HNN on events in the universe. I know the whills have one to let us know what's what, but it's almost never used.

Hell I don't even like twitter but I would be willing to create one for this if it sounds like a good idea, AND the whills/anyone who helps keep the site running approves.

I am liking the sound of this idea. :D

I really can't see anyone that doesn't already rp on jvs bothering to follow a jvs twitter, it won't get new members, it will just be entertainment for the current ones.

Also what would you put on it? The HNN is on a forum we all can see and check, not everyone has twitter so people may not like being talked about on there.

Twas just a suggestion, and I would just find the star wars nerds on it follow them, and in turn the people who decide to tweet as TK-421 might follow it back. Then they learn of the site check it out and BAM new member. Then as you get more of a following you have something like

"Sith dressed as Jedi attack Mandolorian stronghold, total destruction, Mandolorian neo-crusade in the future? Find out more at www.jedivsith.com"

Of course as you say it might just be a flop and entertain our current members.

I think you might need an admin to give an oppinion, personally if a twitter was used then it should be in the hands of the admins so the site retains full control.

There's already a twitter, a myspace, ect. I just don't think they're being used.

The Whills have one but the last time I remember it being used was when they took the site down for like two days.

Lets revive them then.

I think that one is more of a information about the goings on for the site, it may be best to make our own and when we hear something going down just go at it.

If a twitter account is created to advertise JvS, it should be in the hands of someone accountable; the Whills themselves, ideally, perhaps with input from the HNN editors and the GRPEC. If we're putting ourselves out there publicly, it has to be done right, because that one twitter account can bring a hutt-tonne of trouble on us, can ruin our reputation, could even get the site into a legal bind. It's not something that should be put in the hands of just any-old-person without oversight.

Responsibility for advertising for new members should, ultimately, lay with the Whills and those who own/are in charge of the site. Members are all very much welcome to go out there and make friends with people, suggest they come join us on a one-to-one basis, but any official advertising posts need to be handled and controlled by the Whills; as it's they who would have to deal with any problems that may arise from our efforts.

Well as far as legal issues are concerned, if we advertise as JvS, and say that we are a role playing site based in the universe of Star Wars, but not reveal our full title in the advertisement, it would probably be safer. Although typically companies like LucasFilm don't have any issues with Fanon as long as no illegal profit is being made.

But I do agree that there should be at least one Whill in charge or in on the whole operation.

I believe, though I could be mistaken, that we have a JvS Twitter account but I will run this by the Council of the Whills to see what we can do with it. Good suggestions all around on this thread :)

There certainly is a JvS twitter account, but it is almost always only used for announcing site outages, and even then, only sporadically.
