A perplexing dilema

As I have finally finished watching the last episode of Farscape, I had a question pop into my head. Of what listed series did you enjoy the most. I'd like to also know why if you feel like sharing, won't hold it against you if you don't.

Stargate, all of them. Yes even that pathetic SGU crap they fed us, it will all have a place in my heart.

Re: A perplexing dilema

I liked the original Star Trek series with Shatner and Nemoy. Besides the fact that it was a first for many things (first interracial kiss on television for instance), it was genuinely fun. Fight scenes, Kirk's speeches, tribbles, Klingons pre-ridge headedness. Most people seem to like ST:NG the best, but for me it has always been the classic 60s series.

I know I'm going to get grief for this, but I loved Babylon 5. I thought the storylines and characters were genuinely intriguing when you watched it regulary. The back stories that linked all the characters together and the choices they made and the actors that portrayed them were excellent.

I couldn't agree more. Aside from star wars, Babylon 5 was my first sci-fi love, and out of this list, it barely manages to pull ahead of Firefly (had firefly been longer, I have no doubt it would have won, but we cannot change the past). A close third would be stargate, followed by farscape in a very, very distant fourth.

That said, I had to vote for other. Doctor Who takes the cake by a wide margin.

Re: A perplexing dilema

Very tough question, I love 3 of the 4 listed, and one I haven't seen yet which would be Babylon 5. So I'm gonna break it down this way. I loved Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, even if Atlantis was cut short, Universe was a disappointment but if you look at it as an entirely different entity from the other Stargates it's not actually that bad. Farscape was amazing, great characters, great story, and it was just a fun thing to watch, but was cut short. Firefly was one of the best seasons of television I've seen...the problem being there was only one season. That said I think I have to go with Stargate because SG-1 had a clear cut beginning and end.

Re: A perplexing dilema

I know not many people would agree but SG-U was one of my favorites. -_- Though, I agree with you Adrien, it was an amazing show of it's own but was very different from the adventurous SG-1 and Atlantis and it's why many of the fans did not enjoy it because they expected another SG-1. Yet, So sad after it was pulled off air. It had much potential.

Re: A perplexing dilema

I was sad to see it go because it had potential but that was it. The drones were hardly as menacing as the Gou'uld or the Wraith, and they were almost all episodicall with nearly no overlap like the other shows. Oh and it was boring as frack and lacked the KREES and Indeeds that made the others good.

Re: A perplexing dilema

It's a toss-up between SG-1 and Firefly for me. SG-1 had a compelling story and well-written characters. I thought the first season started off a little slow, but it definitely became more refined as it went on. As it was, I was disappointed that the show was cancelled before they beat the Ori in the show, and had to make a movie to show the end. I would have loved to see more...for me, Ark of Truth was very anti-climatic.

Firefly...oh my, did I love (do I love) this show! An awesome concept, excellent story and excellent characters. But unfortunately, it was cut short just as Joss was starting to unveil his story. I hated the movie Serenity. It killed off two of the best characters, one of which before we ever found out who he was (Shepard). I wanted to find out what had been done to River Tam...I wanted to know who Shepard Book had been in his life. I wanted to see something happen with Mal and Anara, or the doctor and Kaylee...SO disappointing...yet another thing I will never forgive the retarded monkeys at Fox for cancelling.

Re: A perplexing dilema

I have to go with Firefly, but I have enjoyed all of these series listed.

Firefly had depth, character, a western nostalgic quality.

Andromeda, not listed, is sadly in close contest with Firefly for me, suspiciously so. I think it was because I watched it as a kid and it brings back good memories of dodging church on Sunday evenings. You really can't get much cheesier than Andromeda without going into the classic Sci-Fi stock. It was a very action oriented show with a few things that seemed important thrown in for flavor. I don't know if I could get into watching it now if it were introduced to me as an adult.

SG-1 had a good story, interesting characters and I always enjoy watching it, but I think it feels a little more sci-fi cheesy than Firefly, which is great, I love sci-fi cheesy, I can just suspend my disbelief better in Firefly because there seems to be a lack of cheese. Maybe Firefly didn't try to explain the science so often? It was just there.

Farscape has actual alien main characters that don't look completely human! kriff yeah!

Star Trek, another entertaining, very sci-fi, show but I just can't keep that suspension of disbelief important to buying into a sci-fi series though. I always loose it 1/4 - 1/2 way through an episode because of the whole utopian society doesn't agree with human nature bit. Still very entertaining, every series in the franchise, except maybe Deep Space 9, and they had aliens all over the place! No idea what lost me in that one.

I have only had the pleasure of watching one or two episodes of Babylon 5. It was another series that was on when I was a kid, but was a little too intense for me then. I haven't tried to pick it back up yet, but one day I will find it on netflix and check it out.

Red Dwarf, come on, you have to like .

Dr. Who of course is missing from the list. It's fun, couple of great episodes mixed in with episodes that take themselves too seriously and episodes that are pretty cheesy.

Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon and the original Battlestar Galactica are also series that helped give rise to all of these wonderful shows. They are fantastically cheesy and if you watch them with people who grew up watching them, they are stupendous!

Personally, I felt the new Battlestar Galactica was over dramatized and ridiculous, so I have no love for it. Keep it classic.

What am I missing for great Sci-Fi series? This is like a kriff hobby, I've seen so many of them.
