Interesting characters

To put the question into a simple format... What do you - the writers of JvS - think that the site could use more of? There are several major groups that I've sort of lumped altogether. Perhaps if we have an opinion of what the writers would think would be interesting/rare characters, or if there is a lack of number of a particular group, then those who are looking to create a secondary character might have some sort of idea in what direction to go in order to ensure that their character will attract attention or at least be able to get some interest from the site in general.

Elaborate on your choice if you please.

Re: Interesting characters

I think non-sentient would get boring pretty quickly. No inner dialogue, all third person (since they can't self identify) descriptions and actions. It's fine for NPCing random creatures, but as an actual PC, there wouldn't be enough substance to keep it entertaining.

I'd like to see more 'others'. The kind of character that isn't easily labelled or categorized. Like an Ewok periodontist or a Wookiee shoe maker (since Wookiees don't wear shoes). The out of the box stuff.

I was really scraping the bottom of the barrel. You reminded me that Vong should probably be on the list as well.

Re: Interesting characters

I like what has been done in the IR with the new characters I have seen there. Human, non-Force...very old school Imperial, which we haven't seen so much of in the past here. Most of the Empires on JvS were made up of a majority of Force sensitive characters or lots of random aliens. Even though the IR follows the Fel Empire era policies (which includes having a Force sensitive sect), it still has the traditional Imperial look, which I love.

I think the same can probably be said for the Republic too. In the senate they've been RPing a lot of alien characters that represent their various worlds, so it looks a lot more like the senate we saw in the prequel movies.

Re: Interesting characters

Being a forcie I can say there are a lot of us, to the point that it is kind of lame. Same goes to the Mandos. Thats why I put my vote for non-force/non-mando. Han Solo was not a forcie, and was not a mando yet look at him probably one of the most bad choobies characters made in the universe period.

I would also like to see more alien species out there but that is just a fools dream.

Re: Interesting characters

I would like to see more compelling Non-Force characters. I think there were some cool ones with "Iron" James Rackham and some of the lot in the Fel Crew, I believe, are non-Force too. Though, I admit, I haven't read their work in far too long.

Regardless, I ultimately voted Mando. I voted this way because I would love to see Dan (Reyn Skirata) write more of the old school, traditional Mando characters. The smithing of armour, the posts about culture, clan, honor, etc. So, in that, I voted Mando but in a way I also voted for Non-Force.

Re: Interesting characters

What we need are more diverse races to fill up the fringe factions of the Galaxy that made things interesting. Chiss Ascendancy, Ssi-ruuvi Imperium, Yuuzhan Vong, Hutt Cartel, Hapas Consortium...All of these factions made up significant parts of the greater galaxy and all are either dying or have died off on JvS... and that is very disappointing...

*Wags finger at JvS*

Very disappointing indeed.

Re: Interesting characters

I'm not too concerned with factional species clans necessarily, those would be great for RP of course. I would love to see less humans more aliens around here as PCs, not NPCs. Where my wookiees at?

A more diverse alien community would be awesome. Not too many people do it.

I agree, I have a few NPCs that are alien but not many. However I voted non-force/non-mando for obvious reasons not the least of which being I think it's the most fun to write by far.

Re: Interesting characters

I'd actually like to see more people. ...More Jedi? Yeah, more Jedi.
Mandos, we've got lots of Mandos. Sith, we've got lots of Sith. But Jedi, do we have Jedi? I mean, that are willing/able to train Padawans or to be Padawans?
Wait, what do Jedi do in the galaxy again?
Meditate. Fight Sith. Meditate.

Really, I think any sort of alien would be cool...whether a smuggler, Jedi, or spy. Aliens are what make Star Wars (and by extension, sci-fi) great. Not that playing humans isn't cool, but I find JvS is more like Empire than the galaxy as a whole...lacking in aliens (oh, you understood the reference?).

Anything non-human is always fun. Granted, this coming from the guy whose only two accounts are both Caucasian human males.

Re: Interesting characters

Diverse alien species would give star wars that feel of actually Sci-fi. Instead its a bunch of white men and women trying to control the galaxy which sounds boring and human-centric.

Long live the Aliens!

Also, we need more ewoks!!!

I thought Kel was Sernpidalian... they are kinda like the Chiss: red eyes and a different color.

Re: Interesting characters

If the Vong had a bigger presence on the sight, that'd be a nice switcheroo. However, we also need a lot more of the random species that inhabit the galaxy. I feel like JvS is what Uncle Adolf would imagine the perfect galaxy to be.

I voted diverse alien species, but what I really want to see is non-Force, non-humanoid aliens.
