Y'know, the target planet doesn't matter too terribly much in the long run. I mean, while I'm all for nuking Corellia or something, nobody in their right mind is gonna say "Oh, it's okay that they have a planet-killing gun, it's ONLY Froz."

Re: Temorarily Lifting the Ban on Superweapons?

I like the idea of using a Superweapon for a storyline as long as it's intended it be destroyed during the said rp. However, I'll admit I'm a little iffy on the idea of using it to destroy a canon planet, regardless if it would be archived shortly thereafter. If it were non-canon, I wouldn't mind. Especially wouldn't mind it if it were a spacestation that got zapped with a superlaser or biological attack instead.

Re: Temorarily Lifting the Ban on Superweapons?

Bring back the death star only, something that gives this site more of a classic style black and white feeling. Sometimes i feel this site has steered to be more like how the prequel films are, we need more adventure and risk taking. If that costs us a planet and a Rebel uprise, society crumbling, so be it! I say we offer up say 2 dead planets, and one major canon planet that is dead.

I've been itching to say...''That's no moon...it's a space station.'' ;D

Re: Temorarily Lifting the Ban on Superweapons?

Closed SLs could use superweapons, I'm sure.

If the Mandos really wanted to do this, maybe talk to the Whills about setting up a new planet (based from canon, just a world that isn't on the boards) for the sole purpose of being the planet where this battle is waged. Give it a few weeks to get an actual RP presence there, then introduce the threat of the superweapon.

If the weapon destroys the planet, no big deal, the boards don't lose anything of great value. If the weapon gets destroyed, the planet celebrates by remaining a permanent planet on the JvS boards.

Cool, no?

(If this has already been said, my apologies. I'm feeling lazy tonight)

EDIT:

Or, better yet, if the planet gets destroyed, the Whills could replace it with a "smoking crater", essentially. Whether this is just a planet devoid of life or an asteroid field or what have you would depend upon the nature of the superweapon. Whoever's involved with this, shoot me a PM. I'd like to be involved in the creation process if this is an actual thing. I've been waiting for a superweapon on JvS since the site's inception.

Maybe if we change the title question to lifting the ban on the Death star more people would come to an agreement? Unless this is already going ahead

Re: Temorarily Lifting the Ban on Superweapons?

Polling the audience does not mean that the Whills will go ahead with something like lifting the ban on superweapons. Suffice to say, they are probably putting it to a debate how to word something like this more eloquently:

"You can already technically use superweapons in closed story lines so long as all parties in your writing group are agreed to it. However, using superweapons in the course of Open RP will still not be allowed."

Now I could be wrong in my hunch above, but only the Whills actually have the power to lift a ban on superweapons as that would be a major change to the rules of the site, I would think. Because it takes some thought to do that, I wouldn't get my hopes up on superweapons any time soon.

Anyway, the whole point of the thread was to see who might be receptive to the idea. And based on the numbers, it does not look as if there is a significant lead to even give the thought about lifting the rule for Open RP consideration.

Which means I can maybe give up my hope of frying Froz.

Canon was supposed to be the point of JvS, it even says it in the Natural Laws, I'd be against anyone permantly removing any planets as that changes canon significantly. A few people may think its great fun, but I don't
think most people want to change canon that much. [/quote:1vb1wv3t]

I agree with this. It could be an interesting plot device to have a weapon capable of destroying worlds since it would add a neat element of impending doom needing to be averted, but I wouldn't want to actually have a canon world destroyed. It already seems silly enough that Alderaan is still around to me ;p[/quote:1vb1wv3t]

Well then lets just have Alderaan get blown up by a Death Star.

At least then no one can whine about it not being canon....

Is this actually going anywhere? Like its's a cool idea, but I'm starting to get the idea that this is a JVS equivelent of a strip tease... A hell of a lot of teasing, but that's all. A case of SL blueballs here

Nah the lifting the ban would be temporary, the results should be premanent.

Gabe I said it was hypothetical conversation in the first post, though if it would have been move overwhelming results in favor then I may have suggested it to the whills, though even then it would be unlikely to pass.
