Office of the Editor

Talk to your editor. Maybe bring him a coffee.

Re: Office of the Editor

I know we don't have an editor right now, but are our publications still on 100 word limits, cause i don't think i can grasp the severity of the Mando'a with only 100 words...

Re: Office of the Editor

I hope we're not still under a 100-200 word limit on our normal pieces. That'd be restricting my creative juices.

Word limit is the kind of things only an editor can decide. It he/she wants 50 or 500 words, thats up to him/her.

Re: Office of the Editor

The office of editor for the HNN is a demanding post, and will require a lot of time and energy.

You are responsible for your reporters. You will be accountable for what they write, how they act, and what they do in the galaxy at large. You will be responsible for assigning them with topics to report on when they can't find any news-worthy stories themselves, and with making sure they get their articles submitted on time. If they get into trouble in the universe, you are responsible for getting them out of it.

You will have sole access to what gets published. There will be a locked topic on the main Universe Board that you, and only you, will be able to write to and modify...and the rest of the universe will be reading it.

You are completely responsible for the format of the publication. The order in which articles are printed, word-limits, content, spelling and grammar are all now your responsibility. You will be responsible for adding pictures to the publication. Your reporters may scour the net for suitable pictures to compliment their articles, and post an IP address for you to find them, but you will be responsible for adding these pictures to the publication.

You are responsible for every fact and every scenario that is written in the publication. Your reporters will write the articles, and submit transcripts of interviews with witnesses and informants, but you are responsible for double-checking every thing they write. For every statement made, there must be a verifiable papertrail that leads from it to its source. You will also ensure that everything piece of news printed is obtained IC.

In short, the HNN is completely in your hands. Treat your team well, and they will treat you well. Good luck, and good writing.

For politics I want to follow some leads I have on the Mando uprising and subsequently new political regime. I have at least two insiders, and may even get a word or two from Plu himself. Am I allowed to proceed

I would say, run with it until the editor tells you otherwise.

*Wondering why the strange man is standing in his new office talking to himself, Caril walks up as he enters with a crate full of his belongings and drops them loudly next to Dunta. He then extends a hand.*

"Hiya. I'm Caril, the newly-appointed editor; at least, for this month. I'm not sure who you were talking to just a moment ago, but I think if you've got contacts on the inside that you can interview already, go for it. An interview with the new Mandalore would be good, if you can wrangle that. Try to see if you can talk to his second-in-command too. Y'know...get a bit of an idea what their spin is on how they plan to run the empire now that they're in control."

*As Caril begins to arrange things around the room and on the desk, he notices the glass of scotch sitting there, and cocks an eyebrow before downing half the glass. He sighs.*

"That's better. Now if I just had a coffee to go with it..."

*Not seeing a coffee machine anywhere, he makes a mental note to buy one the next time he's out. Before he can continue to arrange the office, his comlink chirps. He shoots a glance down, noticing that it's Flo, the new secretary he hired for the HNN that hasn't even arrived at the office yet.*

*Caril rolls his eyes and snaps* "Whichever one's cheaper!" *into the comlink before shutting it off abruptly and returning to his work*

"Congratulations on your appointment to editor. When I signed up for HNN, I applied for all five departments. However, I cannot work in all five departments at the same time. Is there any particular position that you want me to work in?"

*Caril glances up as the man enters*

"Ah, Kage! Good to see you. Thanks. This'll be a challenge, but it'll be fun at the same time, I'm sure. As for the assignments, I actually posted a listing above the cooler just now. I thought you might be a good addition (at least in this edition of the Weekly) for the Trade/Business Department. Given your connections, you seemed a logical choice."

Well, I think I've got a promising lead on what may prove to be an exciting conflict this week over Kashyyyk, so I'm going to go follow up on that there.

"Go for it. You've got time." *Caril says, gesturing to his datapad, where a calendar is tucked into the corner* "Let me know if you need any help. I'll see if my friends and their contacts can find you anything. That's the nice thing about having a Mando as a pal." *He chuckles*

Re: Office of the Editor

The first publication will have to wait until next weekend, as I am going on a small vacation until Wednesday and will not have steady access to a computer, and I need to set your permissions be able to administrate the HNN, and I need to set up the HNN Publication Topic, and go over some format suggestions with you. I won't have time for it this week, but your team should have their articles ready for next thursday, and since I'll be back on wednesday, it works perfectly, and it gives your team ample time to write some excellent, grade-a articles.

Cheers,
Iium
