Re: Above the Planet

*Ayeniner didn't liked being mocked. Though, he also knew when a battle wasn't going his way.* "Alright!" *he squawked.* "You win. I'll just..."

*Ayeniner used his elaborate and amazing distraction to pump out vision-impairing amounts of fire-extinguisher liquid that most utility and astromech droids were equipped with. He wheeled about the hanger, spraying more of the foggy-like substance.

Good. Now he could hide.

Being careful not to spontaneously giggle - or what passed for a giggle for droids - Ayeniner used his infrared sensors to approach his rich (and soon to be dead) enemy from behind. Once at a distance of at least one and a half metres, Ayeniner pulled out his handy water-pump.

He aimed.*

Doesn't matter if this guy can absorb blasterfire and electrical discharges, being electrocuted by being covered in water and then being attacked with my shock arm will do some damage! *he thought in a matter of seconds*.

*He fired his water-pump.*

Re: Above the Planet

*The fog was amusing. Now the guards, who had been, thus far, placing accurate fire on Eralam, couldn't see. The Shard, sadly, was not impaired in the same manner. He drew his revolvers and, taking careful aim through his own sensor suite, fired a single bullet towards both of them. The shots were aimed at their heads. He had been trying to do this without killing anyone, but if the guards starting spraying wildly through the fog, they were likely to hit unarmed mechanics and pilots. Those pilots and mechanics might be just as piratical as the rest of the lot, but Eralam suspected that they were just along for the ride. This crazy little droid probably changed his mind about their mission more often than some species changed their undergarments.

At any rate, the amusement factor was starting to wear off and the Iron Knight was getting seriously annoyed. He kept track of the psychotic astromech's location as it trundled around, and once it got behind him, he lashed out with the Force, trying to knock the little rodder over before it would have a chance to attack with any of the myriad attachments that these things were notorious for carrying.*

"Consider this your last warning. Accept my offer, get paid, go away. Otherwise, I'm going to slap a restraining bolt on you and send you off to Tatooine to test your luck with the Jawas."

Re: Above the Planet

*Ayeniner's plan was all... well, it was all going according to plan. Just this little trick and then he'd be rich, and a Mysterious-Being-Slayer to boot! He slowly brought out his hose-like attachment, aimed and -

- and fell over.

It would have been funny if it wasn't so... disappointing. The poor astromech. All he wanted was to be known and feared. Was that really too much to ask? The sissy Imperial Remnant is getting a name for itself, and the all-sweaty-man-team of the very bromancly Order of the Eye are feared throughout the galaxy... for doing nothing! Ayeniner knew he would get his day. It was destiny!

But then those words sprouted from his enemy's... mouthpiece? Grill? Essence? And the droid knew that the game was up. He registered on his biosensors that those two guards were shot dead, comically through the eye. Ayeniner really didn't fancy taking his chances with those carnivorous rodents on the desert-planet. It was a droid's worse nightmare. Not only that, but Ayeniner had already visited. He had barely escaped without a memory wipe.

He didn't want to go again.*

"No!" *he squeaked, trying to right himself.* "I'm sorry! I'll call off the attack! ANYTHING BUT TATOOINE!!"

Re: Above the Planet

*Eralam nodded gravely. If there was a fear shared among all the independent droids in the galaxy, it was Tatooine and its population of annoying little scavengers. Eralam was loathe to condemn any droid to such a fate, but he found it even more distasteful to allow a slaver to go unchecked. Still, there was hope yet for this one.*

"Good. You'll be 30,000 credits richer for your common sense. Plus, you get to tell people you got into a fight with Old Man Eralam and survived. They don't have to know about the...details."

Re: Above the Planet

*Ayeniner was struggling to get up. He felt like a poor turtle, totally vulnerable. But then he heard about the credits, and that settled him right down. He stopped whirling his wheels two-to-the-dozen, so much that the smell of burnt rubber could be detected by those who had such organs with which to smell, and beeped a reply.*

"Okay! Like I said, you win. I'll leave, and call off the attack, and not go within twelve parsecs of Kashyyyk; promise! Now... help me up, wuddya?"

*Of course, he'd keep to his agreement. Like the other guy just said; there was no need to let everyone know what really went on. Ayeniner would use this battle as a legend for years to come! He'd embellish the story until he was seen as a lone Astromech against this... this 'Eralam' and thirty Yuzzhan Vong Hunter Droids, and of course Ayeniner destroyed them all and left the 'Eralam' alive in a bout of heroic compassion and mercy.

It was perfect!*

Re: Above the Planet

*With a bit of effort and the Force, Eralam quickly had the droid righted. That didn't mean he trusted the little rodder, far from it. He kept his connection with the Force open and ready, just in case. He didn't have the heart to tell the crazy little astromech that he'd recorded the "fight" in hi-def. Undoubtedly his host would embellish the living hell out of the story, probably throwing in a few YVH droids and maybe a wild chase through an asteroid belt for good measure. The tape would certainly be worth a few laughs, and would knock it down a few pegs to boot.*

"Right then. My hyperdrive coolant tank has been holed, and I'm pretty sure the ethereal rudders are jammed. The thing has been wallowing like a bantha for the past few parsecs."

Re: Above the Planet

*Being a warship, the Pendulum was outfitted with starship engineers in case of malfunction or combat damage. Ayeniner used his wireless access to the inter-ship communications network to summon a team of said specialists for the.... for the victor.*

"Sounds like you need flying lessons if this thing has that much damage. I've called up a few engineers to shut up the squealing Bantha you said you had in there. While they're cooing the flea-ridden furball, the on-duty hangar staff will weld up the holes in your tank. Sound good?"

*Of course, deep down in that crossed circuitry somewhere, Ayeniner knew that the 'Eralam' didn't actually mean a real Bantha. But his linguistic comprehension module had a buggy code-line in it somewhere, and that made him to take it seriously.* "Now... about the payment. I'd prefer cash... but looking at you, I'd say that was a no-no. I'll either take a direct credit transfer or something of high value."

*Ayeniner looked the 'Eralam' for a few moments, thousands of possibilities racing through his droid brain.* "For instance, a lightsaber. Or a holocron."

*Ayeniner might have been highly unstable and more than a little bit crazy, but he knew when someone used the Force. Ayeniner certainly did not 'trip over' during the battle.*

Re: Above the Planet

*Eralam had an idea that would make this poor little droid's next targets very, very unhappy.*

"A lightsaber, huh? You know, I have just the thing."

*He darted up the boarding ramp. For a few moments, the sounds of falling objects and muffled swearing could be heard across the deck. After a brief pause, the Shard strode down the steps, carrying a large metal case. He plopped it in from of the astromech and popped open a lid. Inside was a manipulator arm and lightsaber set, both specifically designed to be installed on astromech units. Eralam, who occasionally wore an astromech chassis himself, always had a spare weapon on hand. The manipulator would allow any droid it was installed on to wield the weapon with precision and strength that most organics lacked, and the datachip that came with it would install the necessary software to both control the arm and to teach the wielder how to fight with it.*

"I think this should do nicely. It would take you a long way towards being a fearsome little bugger, eh?"

Re: Above the Planet

*Ayeniner watched the 'Eralam' ascend into the ship just as the engineers were arriving. One by one they followed the victor into the ship and began doing their business. Ayeniner felt sorry for the poor Bantha.

The astromech actually thought about summoning more troops to deal with his hurt pride, but that would accomplish nothing. Droids were different from organics; they had logic free from emotions. Ayeniner deemed it logical to let this guy go and live to fight another day. Plus, he was being well rewarded for losing. Perhaps he should lose more often?

When the 'Eralam' came back, he was carrying what seemed to be like a treasure chest. Ayeniner's curiosity was peaked immediately. When the 'Eralam' opened the chest, though, that was magic. Like the old holotoons where gold would shine brighter than the sun, that was what Ayeniner was looking at.

His future.*

"I'm already a nasty little bugger, but this will make me much more efficient! Thank you, Santa. I consider this payment in full, and I'll even refuel your ship. They should be done in an hour or so. Once they engineers tell you you can go, you can get yourself away! But... what exactly happened to you for your ship to get in such a state?"

Re: Above the Planet

*Eralan chuckled in binary.*

"I jumped a Trandoshan fleet a few systems back. They were heading Rimward on a slaving run to Kashyyyk. I got the lot of them, but a lucky gunner caught me with a bit of flak. Didn't save his ship, mind. Or the 20 other ships in the fleet. Certainly didn't help that old VSD that looked to be the flagship. No idea where they stole that thing from."

*The old Shard carefully neglected to mention the bit about him dinging the paint up on a piece of debris. He had been using the escape pods for target practice and had gotten a bit careless.*

Re: Above the Planet

*Ayeniner let out a chuckle of binary. All droids were the same, deep down in their circuitry; they all loved to cause trouble. Whether that appetite was covered with something rather moral, like stopping slavers or saving innocents, or just outright immoral, like, for example, attacking Froz, attacking strangers who come into your ship for help because their own ship is battered like hell, they all still loved some excitement in their prolonged and very digital lives. Still, with the battle that had just ensued between the little astromech and the 'Eralam', Ayeniner could well believe that this guy had destroyed a Star Destroyer with that hunk-'o-junk.*

"Yeh, I know how those Star Destroyers can be. Tricky things, those buggers. Lucky the galaxy has us, eh?"

*Of course, Ayeniner had never been against a Star Destroyer in his life. No need to let him know that, though. Cool gang and all.

The engineers left the ship and approached the talking droids.*
"All done, Sir! Wasn't that badly damaged, actually. Just needed to plug a few holes and empty a few tubes."

*Ayeniner dismissed them, wondering what they had done to the Bantha and whether he should expect half-Bantha-half-human babies wandering about the ship anytime soon. He decided not to calculate the odds; he probably wouldn't like the answer.*

"Well, looks like our business is done, the Eralam! Very pleased to meet and fight you, and wish you all the luck in the galaxy. Now get off my ship. I have a lightsaber I want to practise with."

Re: Above the Planet

*Eralam saluted sharply and strode towards his ship. As he walked away, he figured it'd be a good idea to pass along some advice that might keep the droid from being diced into little itty bitty pieces the first time he tried to fight.*

"Just do yourself a favor: don't fight anyone with the thing until you've had it installed for a few weeks. The drivers are all designed for use with a Shard-controlled droid, and I haven't the foggiest idea how they'll react to your...peculiarities. In all likelihood it'll be fine, but one can never be too careful."

*And with that, Eralam was up the ramp. His ship rose on repulsors, turned gracefully towards the exit, and then blasted out faster than was strictly necessary. One doesn't become one of the galaxy's most skilled survival expert by trusting psychotic little astromechs not to try something screwy. To be on the safe side, he also activated a custom-modified inertial dampening field that would prevent any explosive devices from going boom. Since an explosion is basically a rapid expansion of gas, the field would treat any such rapid expansions as something to be dampened. The same volume of gas would be released, but it would be a slow burn instead of a rapid boom. Not a perfect solution, but it was better than being chunks of slowly cooling metal drifting through space.*

Re: Above the Planet

*As the 'Eralam' walked away, some sort of processing chip deep within Ayeniner fought to push the 'quick, his back is turned! He'll die easy now!' to the forefront of his logical circuitry. Ayeniner let the feeling pass; he had already been beaten once, and got a reward out of it. It wasn't often that happened.*

"Thanks. I'll be careful."

*Ayeniner, being the crazy and psychotic droid that he was, thought about getting the Pendulum to fire on the gunship as it roared out into space. But again, he resisted. Perhaps the 'Eralam' changed Ayeniner, for the better?

Ayeniner shook his head. Now, that was impossible.

He looked down to the treasure chest.*
"Get me some off-duty security men. I have some training to do!"

*Ayeniner kept his promise, and within the hour the carrier-cruiser had left Froz, and jumped into hyperspace.*
