Re: Open Terrain
Planetside
Lieutenant Erias Halrik, Talon Squadron, Commanding Officer.
*As the sonic booms of atmospheric entry resonated through out the volcanic skies, a single squadron of TIE fighters descended to the planet's surface. The scream of their engines filled the air about them as they soared over head. This was what they all had been waiting for. Cramped up within the hold of a small frigate makes the nerves itchy and the sharp edges of your mind fray. Each and every single one of these fighter pilots relished the chance to prove their metal against the Horica pretenders, and now that chance had finally come. Over their squad level comms he could sense their battle lust, the eagerness of getting to grips with the foe, and bringing death from up high. He would make sure that the skirmish would be enjoyable, memorable, and worthy of song after their bodies had turned to ashes.
Jinking his fighter to dodge a spurt of flak, Erias refocused upon the raging battle before him. His squadron was the vanguard. They were the first Imperial forces to breach the planets shell and take the honour of first blood. A scream had emanated over the communication link as the flak fire had claimed one of his wingmen. Geron's rune had blinked out. Rage had began to take over his vision as the flak tanks came into view. His targeting computer blipped with glee as it had taken ahold of the enemy tank. His fingers depressed upon the trigger and he watched with vaunted interest as his chin mounted lasers tore into the durasteel hide of the tank. An explosion rippled along it's hull as the second volley had pierced the fuel tank. Several other explosions rippled nearby followed swiftly after by the sounds of cheering.
There was nothing that would stop the advance of the Imperial Army now, he thought to himself. This site was secured enough to land a pair of barges to set up a forward operations base. It was just the plan Command had in mind. Knowing that his squadron's efforts had paved the way towards this planet's liberation, the eleven remaining TIE fighters had peeled off from the wreckage and began to scream their way to their secondary objective. Pulling up the order upon his helmet's hololithic display, Erias quickly re-read that Talon Squadron was to play the part of Air support for the EVO troopers landing near the entrance to the main city. A smile had crossed his lips as he closed the display and punched his fighter to it's limits. If only he had one of the interceptors, maybe then he'd consider himself a suicidal speed freak.*
