Re: Tropis-on-Varonat

{ Starlight-class light freighter, [i:39pzbvv5]Bronze Star of Eliathix[/i:39pzbvv5] }[/size:39pzbvv5]

[i:39pzbvv5]*Scrappy met the war-ravenged refugees at the head of the boarding ramp, beeping and chirping excitedly as he saw Liya being carried aboard. The spunky little droid had plugged himself into an interface near the ramp, and as soon as all five passengers were aboard, he cranked the ramp shut, and fired off a message to the navicomputer to queue the autopilot program he had preset. With a tremble, the ship bounced 100 meters into the air above the jungle, and hovered on its repulsorlifts, waiting for someone to retake the controls. R5 had set things up beautifully for an escape. A massive grenade explosion ripped through the space the Bronze Star had been occupying on the ground, just moments earlier. There was a soft hum as her shields once more enveloped the craft, keeping it safe from the small arms fire now raining up from below.*

*Disengaging himself from the socket and retracting his datalink arm, the droid led the charge into the interior of the ship's pasenger compartments. They passed though a hatch into a common area with a small table and several couch-like seats. To the left were three closed hatches, then an open one straight ahead that probably lead to the cockpit. With a wave of his dome-mounted spotlight, Scrappy pointed Dazac, still carrying Liya, to the first door, and watched her anxiously as she was carrier to her bunk. There would be time to check her out later, but he still hated to let her out of his sight now that he'd finally got her back again --- especially with strangers hanging around.*[/i:39pzbvv5][/color:39pzbvv5]
[npc name=Claude "Mack" Dieter:39pzbvv5][action:39pzbvv5]Putting a hand at the back of his neck as he awaits a reply, Mack rolls his shoulders with a grunt, his injured right arm, now that the adrenaline in his system is beginning to wear off, beginning to throb dully, and steps inside the cockpit, nodding his chin in greeting to R5 as he says,[/action:39pzbvv5] "Your mistress is aft, still out from the looks of it. We'll take good care of her, don't worry. [action:39pzbvv5]Pointing up towards the cockpit's ceiling with a tired half-smile as he rubs the the old scar that stretches and twists from the left side of his forehead, down his stubbled cheek and all the way to his jaw, Mack says with a rare dash of humor brought on by the fact they are nearly finally out of the jungle - both literally and proverbially,[/action:39pzbvv5] Let's head out, mate. You need a co-pilot? Gunner? Cheerleader?"[/npc:39pzbvv5][/quote:39pzbvv5]
[i:39pzbvv5]*Then, as Sam turned to look out the side viewport for a glimpse of the battle, the droid sidled a little closer to Mack, and shown his spotlight on Liya's wrist-console. He began to chirp and whistles fast-paced answers to Mack's questions, still pointing insistently to the console. R5 didn't know if the stranger spoke astromech, and so he wanted to call attention to the words scrolling across the tiny display on the miniaturized device. That was likely to be the only way they could understand each other until Scrappy got back to the cockpit and got plugged in.*[/i:39pzbvv5]

[b:39pzbvv5]=R5-E1 [i:39pzbvv5]Scrapheap[/i:39pzbvv5]=[/b:39pzbvv5][/color:39pzbvv5]
::: Thank you for your help.

Come with me to the cockpit. I do not know where we are going. Please, let's leave before any more Uglies show up. :::[/color:39pzbvv5]

[i:39pzbvv5]*The green, white, and purple droid led the way forward out of the passenger compartment, into a narrow passageway, and then through a second hatch into the cockpit, which had been completely modified from the standard layout to accommodate a single flesh-and-blood humanoid pilot, and a socket for a droid along the left side, slightly aft so as not to obscure the lines of sight for the pilot. R5 flashed his spotlight on the pilots chair, then popped into his socket with a whistle that sounded very much like a sigh or relief.*[/i:39pzbvv5][/color:39pzbvv5]

[npc name=Claude "Mack" Dieter:2swb86mj][action:2swb86mj]Looking at the wrist-console when prompted, Mack reads the translation of R5's incomprehensible - for him - Binary, and nods, allowing himself an atypical half smile as he says,[/action:2swb86mj] "Leaving sounds like sound tactical advice to me, mate. And there's no need to thank me, I think your showing up in the nick of time makes us even. [narration:2swb86mj]Following the astromech forward to the cockpit, Mack unshoulders his Imperial heavy repeater and sets in on the floor beside him as he drops into the pilot's chair with a grunt that is partly born from the pain in his side and the mounting exhaustion he is contending with after his ordeal and part, like R5's whistle, sheer relief. Taking a moment to familiarize himself with the layout of the light freighter's control panel, Mack fastens his saftey webbing as he watches through the forward viewport as [i:2swb86mj]the Millenium Eagle[/i:2swb86mj] lifts off, then looks over at R5 and says,[/narration:2swb86mj] There's our cue, mate," [narration:2swb86mj]and, with a last glance at the threat indicator to confirm that no hostile vessels are in the vicinity to complicate the matter, leans forward to do his part in piloting the Starlight-class up and into orbit[/url:2swb86mj] . . .[/narration:2swb86mj][/npc:2swb86mj]

*On the outskirts of the town, Jace's agent was sitting in Jace's own custom Delta-7. Things had cooled down, and now it was time for him to get it home. Checking to make sure the other nine agents were back at the safe houses, he lifted off and went into orbit.*

*The remaining agents kept up their watch of the city. One of them noticed an increase in activity in the HQ, and decided that they would keep a close watch for now before moving in to investigate.*

Re: Tropis-on-Varonat

*Things were pretty quiet, and when the agents had gotten word of another assignment they were more than happy to fulfill the task. Some spread out into the city in search of those criminal organizations that existed on almost every planet, even if they were only small outfits. The rest slipped into the cantinas and got friendly with the locals. From there, both groups cautiously passed on information about jobs being available up the Hydian Way towards the Tingel Arm. They made sure to pass off the act that they were just passing the information off from a friend, or made it slip while conversing about similar topics.*

Re: Tropis-on-Varonat

*Things on the backwater world of Varonat had gotten quiet once again. The occasional message from the cantina about the local gossip got through, but that was about it. The only thing out of the ordinary was that of several ships that had landed and started setting up shops around the large town. Probably just some foolish corporation looking to make a few creds, not realizing that this world wasn't the type to do so.*

*The agents took their duties lightly for the time being, trying to enjoy things on Varonat until something work-related sprung up.*

Re: Tropis-on-Varonat

*A new sense of quiet had fallen over Varonat after the destruction of Xaxan Zadicus' Syndicate. Crime levels fell, but so did tourism and commerce, as the number of shady operatives and spacers coming to seek out work, or slaves, or to settle old grudges diminished. The colony world remained a favored hideout for anyone who didn't want to be found, however, and life continued sleepily. The production of blaster gas from the unique, native aleudrupe berries were more than enough to suffice for the needs of the people.*

Re: Tropis-on-Varonat

*The twice a year harvest time rolled around again, and after four months of tending and weeding and watering their crops, the farmers are rewarded with another abundant harvest. All the schools go into recess, and men, women, and children from age 7 to 70 are put to work in the fields for the next two weeks, picking the aleudrupe berry and packing it carefully for shipment to the nearby Incom Weapons Company fermentation blaster gas factory.*
