Prequel Ruminations

Prequel Ruminations

So I was watching Spike's presentation of the Prequel Trilogy the other day and had a few random questions pop into my head:

When Padme finds Anakin moping in the tool shop after he kills the Tusken Raiders and saves his mother, she says, "To be angry is to be human."

Makes me wonder, does that mean she thinks other species don't get to be angry and have it justified? Or that when other aliens get angry that they appear human?

And, when Anakin realizes Palpatine is the Sith Lord and pulls his lightsaber, there is one moment when that blade is so close to Palpatine that if either had so much as tripped forward Palpatine would have died. I wonder what would have gone down had Anakin actually slain Palpatine in that scene? How different would everything have been?

Any thoughts?

Re: Prequel Ruminations

I don't think Lucas thought that line out well enough in that it sounds odd in the context of Star Wars. It's not a human vs alien thing. I think it's more the sentiment of what we mean when we say "you're only human" as in, we have limits/imperfections.

Re: Prequel Ruminations

Well yeah, I understand where you're coming from.

It just struck me as odd to exist in a multi-specied environment (not Tatooine, just the whole of SW). I mean, Padme has whole lots of exposure to many species other than human all of the time, it would seem it would better fit her character to say something more xeno-friendly, like "To be angry is to live" or "To be angry is to be mortal." I mean, doesn't sound right to us, but we're human after all, and most people let it slide because it's not weird to humans.

Heck, this was like the seventh time I've seen that movie, and it just hit me then.

Re: Prequel Ruminations

The answer to save everything is just to destroy Naboo.

Destroying Naboo before Episode 1 means Padme, Jar Jar, and Palpatine all die. Anakin never finds a girl to go psycho for, Jar Jar .. well, that goes without saying, and with Palpatine dead, we have no Empire after the Clone Wars.

Bam. Problem solved. Someone get making this movie.

Wasn't Palpatine on Coruscant at the time? Not saying that it was a bad idea, just pointing that out

Re: Prequel Ruminations

True, he was on Coruscant at the beginning of Episode I, but he had to be on Naboo at some point to be elected their senator, so destroying Naboo BEFORE episode I still works.

I like the train of thought. Shemi called him Annie enough for him to snap and become evil. I believe that is the true reason for Aniken's fall. A guy can only be called Annie so many times before he snaps.

Just watch RedLetter Media's review of the Prequels to cement your disgust of them. The currently airing cartoon has better writing for goodness sake...actually I've caught a few, and the writing is surprising good and strangely dark for a "kids" show.

Re: Prequel Ruminations

With no sith lord out there to corrupt him he'd still be like I'm not the Jedi i should be blah blah blah and cry some little looking at the city thinkin 'its so beautifull' but he wouldnt be sent to mustafar, that scene wouldnt take place, the kriff hill wouldnt save old ben and anakin would win. He would grow up to be an old skinny sith and have no need of the suit, he'll be skinny cause he wont be eatin all the time cause he's depressed because he killed pandabear, he would raise his kids and the skywalker line would be all sith and you'd see Luke killing Darth ANakin and becoming Darth Luke and ruling the galaxy. But in the end the Vong will still come and kriff things up.

Let's see. If they made Anakin a master he might not fall to dark side. When they didn't, he got pissed, Sidious used that to say he wasn't trusted. and he persuaded Anakin to follow him. If he was a master, Anakin would think he had all the power he would need. Padme wouldn't be strangled by Anakin and all would be well.

if anakins mother hadnt died, i think things might have gone differently, because he really started walking down the path of sith when he slain all of the tusken men and women.

I blame Mace Windu, the guy who could, and I quote, "see the weak places in an opponent├óÔé¼ÔÇØshatterpoints where the unbreakable can be broken. They can occur in individuals├óÔé¼┬ªand in events."

Events like, say... the refusal to make Anakin a master thus prompting him to turn to palpatine for validation and guidance? Spurring the end of the entire galactic republic and downfall of the jedi order? Either the guy was blind, he lied about his power, or he did it on purpose. The last of which would make him the real villain.

Windu, was acting pretty Dark Side for most the movies. HE always had a smug sense of superiority. He Kills Jango and then glares taunting Boba and Duku. And he was about to kill a defeated unarmed opponent. He fell to anger.

It sounds like Windu was more of a grey Jedi then he was of the Jedi Order. I don't think he'd ever fall to the darkside but if he was a grey jedi i think the grey council would of preferred Palpatine dead because he is a danger to the galaxy.

Re: Prequel Ruminations

Makes sense. He did perfect or atleast go the farthest in perfecting the Vaapad form lightsaber combat and that made you go close to the darkside. He just seemed frustrated during the clone wars and maybe prideful. It was like a challenge. You killed all these jedi with your droids. Come face me and you'll pay for them.
