A question to the Jedi council

I've been thinking about why the Jedi had to restore balance to the force when the Sith returned. The prophecy says that the chosen one would destroy the sith and bring balance back to the force, Don't anyone else think that's just an excuse for the Jedi to stay on top of things? I mean what happens if the force became totally unstable? After the Jedi were nearly exterminated and the Order was lost Vader and Sidious reigned over the galaxy for years to come and nothing happened. In my own words i wouldn't call it 'un balanced' I'd call it The Jedi's way of getting their own way and sounding like they are the good guys

...Or maybe I'm a Sith in terms of point of view.

Re: A question to the Jedi council

The only true way to bring balance to the force is to stop people from manipulating it to their own end. I believe Anakin's true purpose was to kill all force users and then die thus bringing balance to the force by eliminating everything that caused the unbalance in the first place. So he really was the chosen one, he just got it wrong and I intend to correct his failures and complete his true mission.

You know you actually have a point there, Jedi or Sith, they both manipulate the force. Like Nature, you tamper with it, the ecosystem becomes unbalanced.

It's like throwing rocks in the water, it's calm and peaceful and then the rock come in makes a splash and the ripples continue on after the splash, throw more rocks in and you get more splashes, more ripples, those ripples interfere with other ripples and soon the once peaceful water is unbalanced, but stop throwing rocks in and it corrects itself. I intend to stop those rocks from being thrown into the lake.

Re: A question to the Jedi council

The technical explanation is that the Sith, and the Dark Side, represent corruption and imbalance. They manipulate the Force to serve their own purposes, and that puts the Force out of Balance. The Jedi represent the Light Side, or the true side, of the Force, and live according to meditation on it's guidance - therefore, they are the agents of harmony and the natural order of things.

That's the technical reason, as given by the high-ups at Lucasarts.
