[quote="Xeonon Solomon":2mgdi5w4]You know what, screw you guys Tolkien was good but honestly I do not give a Sithspit about the texture, smell, taste or anything about the stick. It is a stick. Do not spend a page describing trivial stuff. Of course I was ten when I read them so...[/quote:2mgdi5w4]
If you were 10 when you read them, you need to reread them. I tried when I was younger and didn't grasp much. It's impossible to try and tackle a wall of print that large at such a young age. The books are excellent, though not the best fantasy has to offer. However, personal taste does prevail over all else, I suppose.
On the original topic, however...
I'm honestly not too worried about Disney sticking to the canon. My only concern is that "Episode VII" will allegedly be an original story. In my opinion, this kind of opens the door for Disney to create their own canon, and I'm not sure if it would fit with the rest of Star Wars, EU or no. Episodes I - VI were about the rise/fall of Darth Vader, in George Lucas' own words. I'd probably expand that to the rise of Luke as well, though that's debatable since that only concerns the original trilogy.
With Disney doing movies like the Avengers, Marvel's canon is already so convoluted you can literally do whatever you want with the characters as long as they're familiar. It's different with Star Wars. There aren't multiple universes to draw inspiration from. There's (generally) a single timeline that's been followed (and meticulously recorded, at that). To add a brand new story to the timeline would either make no sense (as any event of consequence would have surely been in the timeline already - they'd have to worry about fixing plotholes for centuries) or they would have to recreate the canon.
Like I said, I'm pretty sure Disney could stick to the canon if they wanted to, and I'm not concerned about messing anything up if they actually go about making movies based [i:2mgdi5w4]on[/i:2mgdi5w4] canon. I'm skeptical about the news that Episode VII will be an original story, however.
I hope that rant made sense.
