Money was at the heart of the galaxy. That was the one immutable truth that no one in this universe could grasp. The Jedi could move mountains with the Force, but they needed to buy passage from one world to the next. The Sith regularly razed cities and worlds in conquest, yet their ships were bought and their crews paid for. Politicians on Coruscant and Corellia brokered power amongst worlds, yet their elections were subject to the corporations that paid for their campaigns.
And as Turus Gral, called Obelisk by those in the Liberty Union, toyed with a 100 credit chip in his hands he could not help but wonder why it took so long for this gathering to come together.
::The fleets are approaching the fine line, Obelisk,:: a Muun banker who went by the name of Jade in meetings spoke from across the table.
::We have operated at minimal supply use among all the warships for years,:: a Trandoshan warlord called Shale said. ::In three months, our supply shipments will reach a scale that is not able to be concealed regardless of how many secure contracts we take out.::
Obelisk nodded and turned across the table to another hologram, Lime. "What is our expected strength of arms?"
Lime glanced at something outside of his hologram, then returned his gaze to Obelisk. ::We have seven Carriers, Director. Combined, and with the support of all of our capital ships, we could conquer Coruscant. Such an action would leave us weakened and unable to campaign for months.::
"And if we acted more strategically?"
::Each carrier could potentially conquer a middle to small sized world, depending on proximity to the Core. Certainly, with 300 units of clone troopers, vehicles and gunships on each we are well positioned.::
"Most excellent," Obelisk said. "Very good, one and all. I admit, the supply situation is worrying but not unforeseen. And now we come to the task of deciding which ripened fruit to pick first."
That set many a mouth to watering as a dozen different holograms began to speak as one. Obelisk heard shouts of Coruscant, Muunilist, Corellia, Bakura, even Korriban. He was perfectly willing to let everyone vent their passions after years of practiced patience. Everyone on this call had sacrificed months, mountains of credits, ships and even, tragically, family. All would want their grievances answered first. When the debate began to wane, Obelisk waved his hands in dismissal.
"I understand our frustrations, one and all. But we have survived this long specifically because we have been measured, patient, and ruthless. That trend must continue. I will leave it to those of us with experience preparing for such battles to make the preparations. Now, financially, we are well prepared. I have made certain we have cash holdings on 12% of inhabited worlds in the galaxy. Many, admittedly, are of middling importance. However in one year's time, that number will increase to 20%. At our current size however, we can and will trigger a Galactic economic collapse. Coruscant is our ultimate goal and I am shunting adequate resources to that gem in order to achieve that goal by year's end."
