Re: Open Orbit

*The Fearless exited hyperspace with the cloaking device activated, Dreks had become increasingly paranoid of late. Her once mighty fleet had fallen apart since she had departed from the known galaxy. She had departed from the old Fel Empire after a major disagreement with the old emperor, something she did not discuss with anyone, even her closest and most trusted officers. It was very reluctantly that she was re-entering known space to seek out what remained of the old Empire. She had become tired of survival on the fringes, having to raid supply convoys for food, steal medical supplies and fuel to get by. It was time she took command of a force with a proper logistical supply network and regain what she had once had, glory.*

*Bastion, long the home of Imperial style empires although it was a place she had not visited. The fortress world was impressive and the Fearless would be hard pressed to sneak to the surface, even with its vast array of cloaks and sensor masks. However, sneaking was not on the cards today and the Force Commander nodded towards the counter measures Officer. The experienced Chiss lowered the cloak and shields and deactivated the sensor masks. The Fearless was visible to all.*

*Dreks would test them to see if they really were part of the old Fel Empire. If so they would have access to her record, her exemplary service to the Fel Empire and then the Fourth Galactic Empire. She was glad they did not have access to her Chiss record and what she had done to survive during her absence. The dour mood on the bridge seemed to echo silently, soon they would have relief from their meagre existence and be par of something bigger once more.*

Re: Open Orbit

*High in orbit above the planet of Bastion, Admiral Dante Rushmore sat upon the command deck of the Amun Ra and was currently enjoying a bit of lunch. The crew around him was busy with gathering tactical data and dispersing that information to the Solar Armada across heavily encrypted channels. The amber eye admiral sat and enjoyed a light meal of club sandwich with a glass of white wine to wash it down. Everything seemed to be falling into place when it came to his career here on Bastion. Knowing that he could have been killed along with Marcus Elbaz for his acts against Exitius former Republic on Mustafar, Rushmore offered up his services and experience as a fleet commander to the Solar Empire. With Marcus Elbaz now dead, the only other person alive who knows that Rushmore rebelled with Lance Hashmal would be Admiral Michael Stockwell, an admiral of the Solar Armada.*

*That piece of news was the difference between life and death from Admiral Rushmore, and he knew that better than anyone else in the entire fleet. After taking a sip of his white wine, Rushmore sat it back down on the table near his chair and gazed his amber eyes in the direction of the Solar Expedition Fleet. He stared directly at the vessel which Admiral Stockwell was in command of. Knowing he would have to face this beast sooner of later, Rushmore ran his fingers along the panel beside of his chair and opened up a secure comlink channel with Stockwell's ship.*

*Bastion. A spectacle of bright minds and good will. Of flowering meadows and jagged mountains. Shimmering blue expanses of water and bleach white blankets of snow . . .

Yeah right. No, Bastion was but an expanse of knolls and hills and it was not by Conall's choice that he was here. No, if it hadn't been for damned pirates, he'd be at Geonosis already challenge for the gladiatorial arenas there. To proved himself a paragon and he crushed lesser men. But now none of that could happen. Not when the hyperdrive to his personally modified HWK-290 had been damaged enough that couldn't withstand a trip from even Talus to Tralus. No. Conall was done with any hopes of travel until he got this repaired and now he was to land on a planet he knew little to nothing about. Much of what he knew of the planet cam from his ship's navicomputer and even that wasn't enough to get him anywhere. No, for now he was screwed until his ship was fully functional again.

He turned the ship so that it headed to the Orbit of the planet and stopped just when the planet's gravity took hold. From hear he could assess planetary patrols and defenses. Take the time to see about whether to request permission to land or go about his way and do so. Probably best to be formally granted permission to land. Especially on a planet he knew little of.

Soon enough, he sent a transmission detailing his situation and requesting permission to land on the planet's surface. It was now a waiting game, as he'd wait for the proper authority to process his request and grant him further instruction.*

*Well. Immediate clearance; that was good. No seemingly endless game of waiting. No strenuous testing of his patience. Good; this meant he could get down to the surface quicker and make the needed repairs. This was very good indeed.

Conall shifted his positioning in the pilot's chair then, moments later, eased the throttle forward. The HWK-290 shuttered for a second, then lurched forward - raising atmospheric shielding in the process. Weapons were powered down for the descent and soon enough the ship had breached the planet's atmosphere.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Just outside of Bastion's orbit.*

*Like tiny blips appearing on a sonar device at long range, the entirety of Kaiden's assembled and loyal battle fleet sprang into the far reaches of Bastion's nearby space. Immediately after returning to real space the massive fighter carriers unleashed their horde to the open space, releasing the many varied Starfighter Squadrons to begin running protective and offensive screens in front of the main fleet. Once released, the fleet began to lengthen itself across a horizontal line in space. In the center of the formation lay the largest vessel, the flagship Pride of Cron. Across it's four kilometer long hull turreted turbolasers began to rise out of their barbette casings. On all sides of it's hull the Pride of Cron bristled like an angry hornet ready to tear apart anything in it's path. Across it's prow zipped two of the starfighter squadrons, each one weaving intricate flight paths in front of the center of the fleet.

On either side of the Pride of Cron lay the twin Legate cruisers. On the left lay Raiel's Swift Return, the right bore it's twin, Sorcerer's Retribution. They two were prepared for a fight, their long-range weapon systems already online and seeking out targets in the darkness of space. Primarily used as missile cruisers the Legates were armed with heavy proton torpedoes and long-range turbolaser cannons. If Bastion would put up a fight in Kaiden's quest to reclaim the planet as his own the Legate's would rip anything it sent against them from afar, crippling them before the main fleet arrived in firing distance.

Scattered across the picket line lay the remainder of Kaiden's battle fleet. Heavy Cruisers composed the left flank while Star Destroyers and light Cruisers lay on the right. His line was strong, everything prepared and ready for a heavy encounter once they neared Bastion itself. Slowly, the line began advancing. Traveling at slightly over 20 MGLT the first of the Starfighter Squadrons flying in front of the line would pass into the scanner range of Bastion's orbital or ground based Systems within two hours time.*

*On board the Pride of Cron, Kaiden remained on the bridge during the entire advancement on Bastion. Resting on the edge of his large backed chair, placed on a higher tier of floor than the remainder of the bridge, Kaiden's eyes never once left the form of Bastion as it slowly grew in the capitol ship's large viewport on the bridge. Officers and other members of the crew milled about on the level below, all completing tasks needed for the ship to remain functional and operational in the event of a battle. No one said a word to him as he stared out across time and space in amazement at the proximity of Bastion.* *His rear admiral stood to his side, dressed in Imperial fashion, arms clasped behind his back. He stood awaiting Kaiden's words and orders. While Kaiden was on board, he ceded control of the massive Flagship to it's true owner, Kaiden Sareno.* *Silence lingered in the air as the war fleet advanced on quiet Bastion.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Surprisingly Bastion put up no resistance in Kaiden's rush to reclaim the former capitol of the long dead Phoenix Imperium. Irony poured out of the situation as former Imperium forces retook the home world in a valiant effort. Thousands of hours of man power went into the planning of the 'attack' on Bastion's protective orbital defenses, yet when they arrived all Kaiden encountered was a disabled Golan III platform being used as a Traffic Control center and a long-dead Minefield spread out across the hyperspace routes leading directly to the planet's orbit.

Kaiden's fleet placed themselves just within Bastion's orbit, allowing the planet's gravity to propel them around the world slowly as the ground forces and Starfighters prepared to make landfall and assess the surface. Thousands of Imperium Shock Troopers and Stormtroopers geared up and boarded hundreds of TGMI transports the fleet fielded. Once the entire ground force was loaded onto their respective transports the Starfighter screens that once pushed the fleet into the defenses of Bastion now broke off and began leading the charge down through the lightly clouded atmosphere of Bastion.

Across the comms war cries and promises of riches were repeated out across every platoon and squad of trooper. Although Kaiden had given strict orders to keep the capitol city and the primary important pieces of the city intact and that looting be banned, the soldiers knew that retaking Bastion meant a new Empire, a new era of wealth and riches. Retaking Bastion meant changing their lives and the lives of the Galaxy as well.*
*Down through the skies came hundreds of thousands of transports, carrying vehicles and platoons of loyal Imperial soldiers. Bastion would be Kaiden's before night fall of the new day.*

*Boarding his own vessel, the YT-2000 Freighter, Kaiden said little to anyone - speaking only to inform the Pride of Cron that he was leaving for the surface. Opening the hangar bay doors, the Freighter slipped out and fell into line along with the steadily pouring transport fleet. All headed for the surface... for the capitol.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Bastion's high orbit*

*The first of three Battlegroups of the Royal Imperium Fleet began to assemble itself across the northern hemisphere of Bastion at the break of dawn following the opening of the Imperium Bank of Bastion. Orders had trickled down through the ranks from the Emperor himself. Kaiden's orders were clear, precise, and to the point. Bastion was a thriving metropolis and proud Capitol of the Phoenix Imperium, yet what good was an Imperium Senate without member worlds to share in it's glory? What good was the Imperium's famous Archives, free and open to the public, when there were no students flying in to study on the Imperium's capitol. What good was an Empire that didn't reach out to save the Galaxy?*

*Their first target was Yaga Minor. The Imperium's former Shipyard's were still located there under the protection of one of the Mandalorian clans. Which, Kaiden knew not, but whoever it was they would give up the Empire's pride and joy. The destruction of the Cron Installation still ravaged Kaiden's mind when he thought of Production Yards, which drove him to chose Yaga Minor as the new headquarters for the Imperium's naval strength. An Empire needed Star Destroyers built to field in battle against the darkness of the Galaxy. Credits from the Bank of Bastion would fund the production of a massive flotilla of Star Destroyers, enough to subdue the darkness that overtook the Imperium once before. In Kaiden's hands, the Empire would prosper to unprecedented levels. Expansion was nigh, and once Yaga Minor was taken - other worlds would fall under the new Emperor's gaze.*

*Squadrons were recalled to their Carriers as the Battlegroup prepared to launch itself across the stars. Probes were launched first as a precautionary procedure. God only knew what the Mandalorians had done with the defenses of Yaga Minor or the Shipyards themselves.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Hyperspace yielded its latest imperial prize with a flash of light and a flicker of pseudo-motion. The Star Destroyer Pellaeon lurched as its powerful ion drives gave thrust and direction to the ponderous mass of metal and weaponry. Imperial efficiency was to be feared, and all Star Destroyers had that frightening efficiency. The Captain of this particular vessel, though, admired more than just efficiency. Imperial elegance was also to be showcased. Thus, his flagship sported that not of the Imperial classes - the dagger-shaped bows and ugly tower bridges - but a newer class of warship, the Republic Star Destroyer, which was much, much more elegant.

And always under-estimated.

The ship opened up a hailing channel to Bastion Command, the homeworld of Imperial Majesty.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Ignus felt the deck lurching as the Pellaeon began to manoeuvre. Sweat began to bead at his brow as he held his breath. Being a 'ranger' aboard the Star Destroyer was amazing at times, and at others it was just... hazardous. The then-captain Loic, now admiral in the Imperial Fleet, had decided to install what he called a 'bestiary' in his flagship Star Destroyer. He termed the idea as 'an innovation in frontline thinking and warfare' and, looking at the arrangement of animals that Ignus watched over, this was painfully obvious. If he had of thought of the idea, there'd be no need to serve on a warship. He would be on Bastion, receiving awards and enjoying fine wines and succulent meals with top-end imperial officials. Still, this was the next-best thing.

Ignus was in crisp grey navy uniform, with a downward peak on his cap that indicated non-combat personnel. He liked it like that. He'd much rather be with his animals in their cages then on the front line, lobbing grenades and spitting blaster bolts to all those who dared defy Imperial Will.

With Ignus was Othla, his niece. She had just joined up on the Imperial Mission and, though they served on the same Star Destroyer, Othla was a Stormtrooper-in-training and thus didn't get around the ship often. Now, with some down-time with the return to Bastion, Ignus had invited her down to the bestiary to see all the animals.*

"Look! They're fighting! Now that's what I wanted to see!" *said blond-headed Othla in that thick country accent from Dantooine. Ignus knew that none of his animals would be fighting, but he grabbed the visionoculars from her just to make sure. He pressed a red button atop the yellow carapace and smiled as he saw what she had been looking at. There were about four hundred high-powered cages holding two animals each. The two particular she was looking at were two over-promiscuous Monkey Lizards. He handed her back the visionoculars and allowed her her illusions, briefly wondering if it had been to do with the fact that she was combat personnel.*

"You want to grab something to eat? Before we have to leave again, I'd really like to taste something other than what the mess hall spits out."

*Ignus didn't often socialise with family, but this was a special occasion. It was her birthday, and he had a surprise.*

"Yeh," *she said, placing the visionoculars on the utility bench beside her.* "That'd be nice."

*Together, they left the bestiary and headed for the shuttle bays.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Ignus and his niece walked through the crowded corridors of the Star Destroyer. Holographic signage indicated that they were heading to the Non-Commissioned Shuttle Hanger. That was where all the guys who wanted to fly in a spacecraft and live went. The others, well, that would be in the opposite direction. To the fighter hanger. The Pellaeon had its fair share of new and outdated space superiority fighters, and a few bombers to boot. Ignus took a moment to elevate his respect for those fighter pilots out there who fought on with only a thin layer of star fighter hull between them and the void.

His niece, Othla, power-walking like crazy beside him, they were at the shuttle bay within minutes. Sometimes it was hard having a Stormtrooper in the family. They forgot that they were the elite, and no one got training like them. Heck, Ignus had heard rumours that there were only a contingent of one hundred of them aboard the flagship! Just one hundred Stormtroopers, on a Star Destroyer? But then, when he looked at Othla, he had no doubt they were as lethal as all the media hype made them out to be.

The shuttle bay that they were heading to was strictly non-combat. That meant really bad shuttles, but really easy access. With a Star Destroyer on his side, Ignus preferred the quick option this time around. Besides, Othla would be flying. He didn't like flying.*

"Definitely something for droids..." *he finished, the tail-end of his thought train forcing its way from his mind to his mouth.

Othla flashed a smile that was only seen off-duty, where her personality-without-a-gun shined through.*
"Flying is not for droids, Uncle. You just drive like a woman."

"Says she!" *Ignus threw back, nudging her gently on the shoulder. Not out of respect, of course, but out of fear of retaliation. She still had wider shoulders then he. And those biceps looked pretty fierce, too.

They reached the shuttle, and Othla flashed her identity chip to commandeer a shuttle. As usual, Ignus had no intention of piloting and strapped himself into the passenger seat as Othla closed the hatch.

In contemplative silence, Ignus and his birthday-girl niece cleared their descent with control and headed to the planet.*

Re: Open Orbit

"We're in high orbit, Admiral. Maintaining a gyro stationary position ." *Announced a bridge officer in crisp imperial uniform, the capped headwear the crowning glory of Navy uniform designs. Loic had to hand it to the Imperium's logistics - whoever managed to organise that on an interplanetary governmental basis deserved the Bastion Cross. It made his job, as an Admiral, look rather easy in comparison. The bridge had a panoramic view of the spatial territory of the capital of the Imperium, and it was magnificent. Loic noted that all traffic was efficiently regulated, that no trans-orbital shuttle accidents occur. What was left of the defense elements seemed willing to guide and help visitors, rather than impose totalitarian authority through the famous Tarkin Doctrine. That was what the Imperium stood for; a place to live a safe and orderly life, away from the dangerous freedoms the Republic offered, and yet still far from the other Sith Empires, where denizens cowered in fear of their overmasters.

Though no political system was perfect, this Imperium was the closest thing Loic had seen in the current state of the Galaxy. He was content to await his orders aboard the Pellaeon.*
"First Officer Daryth, you have the bridge. I'll be in my cabin should you need me."

*Daryth, a red-tattooed Twi'lekk, saluted with a grin. Loic could leave his ship in safe hands with Daryth. He trusted him.

Besides, he needed some sleep.*

*Realspace rippled apart and several ships of varying size and use erupted into the void. At the head of the column of five was a , similar in nature to the ISD-IIs of old, but larger and more powerful. Flanking it were ships of similar heritage: a Victory I Star Destroyer, a Majestic-class cruiser, an Immobilizer 418A cruiser, and a custom design, an . Their bellies were full of starfighters, ready at the go for just whatever Bastion was able to throw at them, if it was necessary, but Ronan hoped that it would not be.

*He was almost surprised at how terse the controller was, but he had to remember that these were Imperials. Everything was short and to the point. One more thing to add to his list of things to get used to.

"Oh dear, the Admiral won't like that!" [narration:9k6tmtm0]muttered Daryth as a sensor officer just informed them of a new arrival dropping into realspace, acquiring permission to land almost immediately, and sending a prissy shuttle to the surface. Loic had been in the system for a few hours now, and had even took to retiring to his cabin for a snooze, while waiting for new orders from the their new Lord.

Daryth, the first officer aboard the [i:9k6tmtm0]Pellaeon[/i:9k6tmtm0], was just about to file a report for the Admiral when the message terminal began beeping. Daryth was not like Loic, who would have went himself. Daryth was a great believer in the underlings doing their own work, and when no bridge officer or ensign rushed to read the message, Daryth became frustrated.[/narration:9k6tmtm0]

"I wonder when self-reading messages were invented, then?"[narration:9k6tmtm0]he asked aloud, angry eyes doing a sweep of the Star Destroyer's bridge. There was immediate hustle and bustle, and a female ensign rushed to the terminal to read the message. She downloaded it to his personal digital assistant - basically a holographic screen with a small data storage chip in the holoemitter - and handed it to him.[/narration:9k6tmtm0]

[quote="Imperium Command":9k6tmtm0]To the acting officer of the Pellaeon,

The Imperium has need of Admiral Loic in the Palace. We await him at a special meeting.

[narration:9k6tmtm0]Lucky Daryth had not sent that damning report.[/narration:9k6tmtm0] "Someone send for the admiral!"

[narration:9k6tmtm0]Within the next half an hour, a shuttle was making its way through the orderly orbital traffic to the surface.[/narration:9k6tmtm0]

Re: Open Orbit

*Daryth watched out of the viewport as the small flotilla of varied and mismatched warships received a shuttle and all turned to jump to hyperspace minutes later. He wondered what had gone on, and whether the meeting was over. He could guess that whoever commanded that feet would have been in the same meeting as the Admiral and the Lord Regent. Being Executive Officer of a Star Destroyer was not a post for the less inquisitive. Daryth made a mental note to find out where they had gone.

He was lost in his thought when the workwoman at the bridge's sensor feed called out;*
"Executive Officer Daryth. The Admiral's Orbital Shuttle has just docked. He's on his way up."

*Daryth felt a moment of panic and then felt it fade away. When a senior officer came to the bridge when he was in charge, it was usually to inspect. The Admiral was just coming back to take the reigns. Daryth had been babysitting, that was all. There was nothing to worry about.

And there was definitely nothing wrong with babysitting a kilometre-plus long warship capable of destruction on a planetary basis. A single Star Destroyer could wipe out a planet's civilisation at its leisure, and that was the old Imperials. This Republic was smaller, but was made to match her larger cousins. No, there was nothing wrong with babysitting that.

The Admiral stepped into the bridge and all stood to attention.*
"At ease," *he said.* "We have a new destination. Set course for Bespin."

*There was a chorus of 'at your orders, Admiral!' as Daryth once again ceded control of the killing machine over to her rightful master. The bridge crew done their jobs and within the hour the Pelleaon was clear of the close orbit and well out of the influence of Bastion's gravity well.

The Pelleaon jumped to lightspeed moments later.*
