Re: IC disputes settled OOC

Verdes, hey, long time no see!

Just so you know what's going on: as far as I know, Cassus retired from the site, but he didn't really tell us what was going on, IC or OOC, so I don't know for sure. We haven't decided what the Mandos are going to do with the planet next, as we're very short on Fetts. But we would still defend it at all costs as a key Mando'ade world :)

Re: IC disputes settled OOC

OOC: I have claimed this planet for the newly-established Mandalorian Protectors, since is has been abandoned.

It will still be Mando-friendly and welcoming for all Mandos, but since it was not being used for any other storylines or RPing, and I already spoke to Dominus Lucius OOC and he said he had no part in the defense or storylines of the planet itself, and that his fleet was just here for a short personal storyline of his own, and since it hasn't been RPed on at all in about 3 weeks now, I am claiming it by abandonment.

I will be providing info about the Mandalorian Protectors soon, but just as a preview, it will be a group of Mandalorians who are not interested in empire-building or politics, but in being true to Mandalorian culture, and putting a premium on family, comrades, and being warriors. We will fight the wars of others, and Mandos used to do, and offer protective services for fees.

This new group is not meant to be in competition with the Mandalorian Empire, or to make enemies with them, just offering another way of being Mando. There will be no Mand'alor for this group, since I don't want to compete over what has become a political title in JvS, it will just be an offshoot of Mandos who value their families and vode over all else.*

I'm sure Taung H'rel -- the new Mand'alor -- will want to talk to you about this, Banvon, but I like what I've seen so far. We always welcome more people RPing as Mando'ade as long as they are willing to respect and work alongside the storylines and political structures we have already developed.

Re: IC disputes settled OOC

OOC: I have no problem speaking with the writer of Taung H'rel personally to discuss possible storyline arcs, but to be honest, the condescending tone of your post in this thread, which I'm taking to be OOC, since this is an OOC thread, does offend me a bit.

First of all, I'm troubled by the mixing of IC and OOC that takes place in your comment. While I have no problems with working alongside storylines, the fact that I'm not welcome to RP a Mando or on a Mando planet OOC if I don't conform to political structures that were developed IC is counter to the nature of good RPing. Part of the reason why I'm RPing what I am instead of having my character join the ME is because I don't like the idea of a Mandalorian "Empire" - I've seen what it has become many times in the past on this site, especially with the politics, and IC, it just seemed very un-Mando to me. IC, Banvon is friendly to all Mandos and holds no hostility toward the ME, and should they request his help, especially for defense, he'd answer the call for his vode, but he doesn't think fighting for an Empire (without plenty of credits, at least) is the best way to serve his family, the families of other Mandos, or their civilization. It just doesn't come off well as an RPer, regardless of experience, when you say "You're welcome to RP a Mando so long as you RP it our way." It saps creativity and smacks of a nasty OOC RP-Nazi regime in the making. (I'm not saying that's what it is, or that Taung H'rel's writer sees it the way you expressed either - I haven't spoken to them yet, so they can speak for themselves - but it's just a warning sign that you're treading close to dangerously thin ice when it comes to violating the basic principles and freedoms of RPing, especially since JvS doesn't legislate how characters are RPed that strictly, and frowns on mixing IC with OOC.)

Second, it rubs me the wrong way too since even a Whill doesn't have the right to tell a writer they have to RP a certain way to be allowed to RP a Mando/Jedi/Sith/etc. Being told I'm only welcome as a writer to RP a Mando character/business/planet if I RP the way the other Mando writers want me to violates my rights as a writer on this site. I'm not going to file an IR over it - unless I catch undue crap (OOC or IC) for my candor in this post - but I just want to make sure it is brought to your attention.

Forgive the harsh tone of this response, it's not meant as an attack or an insult OOC, just a few words from a concerned fellow writer about what troubled me with what was said and implied in your last post. I don't hold it personally against you or anything, but since this site has too much mixing of IC and OOC as it is, and far too many OOC power struggles between writers, as a responsible RPer, it would be wrong of me not to address a concern when it arises.*

Re: IC disputes settled OOC

Friend, I really didn't mean anything of the sort.

Rather, I was responding to your apparent concerns (quoted below) by stating that we welcomed your ideas, and name-dropping Taung H'rel (I'm sorry, that's the only name I know him by, IC and OOC) so you would know who you should contact if you wanted to pursue a conversation with the ME leadership.

[quote="Banvon Tawr":31uxtsu7][ooc:31uxtsu7]This new group is not meant to be in competition with the Mandalorian Empire, or to make enemies with them, just offering another way of being Mando. You appeared to me to be expressing concern about how your efforts would be received, and I simply wanted to make clear that a positive attitude and interest in collaboration like yours is always welcome (whether or not we see eye-to-eye on how things should be run IC). I see now that I worded things badly, but I never meant to imply any further meaning. I was merely attempting to complement you for your willingness and interest in working within the Mandalorian storylines we've already created. (This is a welcome change from other recent, nasty experiences). I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough.

You'd be interested, I think, to know that I share a lot of your reservations about how politicized the Mandalorians have become, when compared to canon. I was Mand'alor until about 3 weeks ago, and at one point I attempted to dissolve the political side of the Empire and instead focus our efforts around being a confederation of individual clans, but I was nearly unanimously opposed, so for the sake of peace I allowed the Empire to return. My decision to give up the Helm ultimately hinged on politics as much as anything: I didn't have time to write anything else anymore because there was so much of it.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this problem. Many of the current Mandalorian writers are Mandalorians because they like things this way. I'm open to any ideas you might have, but for now I'm planning to focus on making my own clan as realistic as possible, and let others worry about the Empire.

Re: IC disputes settled OOC

OOC: I'm sorry my response came out so harsh before. I'm just cautious about not getting caught up in something that mixed IC and OOC. It's happened way too much on this site as it is, and I've seen a lot of people get hurt and a lot of good storylines and RPing get ruined as a result. But now that all of that's cleared up, it's all good.

As far as Mando politics go, that's one reason why I'm offering Concord Dawn as a place to RP Mandos being Mandos and keeping it out of the "Imperial" aspects that others like to RP. Just about everyone here wants to RP a Mando or at least have a character with Mando heritage, so a place to RP Mandos and belong without having to get caught up in the politics aspect of it is important. Instead of having a whole empire to look after, we have one planet, families and vode, and when we want to, some work on the side as well. That's another reason why I came up with the the idea of a business that centers on defending other planets and fighting other people's wars, besides the fact that Mandos did that in canon anyways. Since it's not a political venture and doesn't involve running and holding on to a bunch of planets, there's more time for RPing Mandos doing what they're best at: fighting, "business", and family.

I want to get more Mandos to RP on Dawn, or get new Mando characters to join there too, if their interested, and once the holidays are over and I have more time (right now, life's a bit crazy), I'm going to put more effort into developing the planet into a place for many more SLs and RPing to take place. Among the ideas I'm tossing around is the creation of an arena that offers a very broad variety of fights to take part in - including beast vs. beast battles. (I've always thought it would be a lot of fun to RP rancors and other huge beasts in similar fashion to the way we do duels.)

If you're looking for a place to get your character out of politics, he's welcome to come to Dawn.*

Ooh ooh....I like this idea. Concord Dawn was not only a farming population, but a "wretched hive of scum and villainy".....sorry, I had to.....so introducing something of an arena, with underground gangland connotations would be most fitting

You only want an arena so that you can get oiled up and wrestle. Pervert

[ooc:1co6qdw0]Yes, I thought it was fitting too, and could be a lot of fun.

In fact, I did have something of a Mando-Mafia idea in mind from the start; not so corrupt, certainly not Hutt-like, and with it rooted in the idea of Mandos trying to feed their families - you know, "business is business".

I'm going to work on it more once the holidays are over, right now is just a crazy time in RL.[/ooc:1co6qdw0]

Re: OOC RP Planning and Dispute Resolution

As Banvon hasn't posted since 11 March 2010, and as my clan is the only lot posting here, I'm reclaiming the planet in our name and control.

Banvon has been contacted via pm.

Any scruples, please note them here.

24 hours countdown starts now.

TG Entry changed.

Concord Dawn now falls under Clan Vhett control.

As the existing Mandalorian Protectors defences (NPC) are Mandos anyway, I'm just gonna assume they are swallowed up into our net....kinda like a merger.
