Skip 5

*It was very hot, with an internal temperature that was about 40 centigrade that made it almost unbearable for most species. As a result, it was abandoned during the time that Han Solo was a regular on the Run. About a decade before, it was occupied by a group of smugglers, who lived there for months, but eventually ended up killing each other in a fight that was supposedly started by the heat.*

Re: Skip 5

Several months in the future...

*It was a cooler day than most. 39.5 actually. Thankfully the nanites in her bloodstream kept her body at normal temperature so she never even noticed the heat except when she went to drink a glass of water that had been sitting out for more than a few minutes. That was frustrating even the thirtieth time, she had figured she'd learn... she didn't.

She had come here on her own accord by herself, mostly just to get away from the hustle and bustle of life for a bit, and only two weeks into her stay, she was starting to have a love/hate relationship with the solitude. Sure it was quiet, but the halls seemed haunting. The rock around her was under constant stress and made the metal walls groan, made for interesting sleeps.

But one day she was in the shower when she though she heard a whisper. Her dreams hadn't been normal since she had been revived, but this wasn't a dream as far as she was concerned. Stepping out she picked up her holopad and looked over her vitals which all read perfect. So she wasn't being affected by the heat. But it came again. This time she thought it was a whimper, something about the shadows. Which made no sense. She put on some clothing and sneaked her way down the dim lit halls.

As she walked she felt like she was being followed, it was just an eerie feeling that snaked down her spine and she spun around... nothing. She continued walking...

The next week was uneventful. No whispers no 'shadows'... until one night she awoke from one of her nightmares to another. There was a shadow... standing at the foot of her bed. It just stared at her. Through her. She immediately pulled her ripper from under her pillow and shot at it in the 'head' in a motion that almost threw her arm out of socket. But nothing happened. The shadow didn't move and it didn't flinch. She stared at it as she slid out of bed. Moving to flip on the lights she found that they weren't working which made her sick to her stomach, that and the thing just kept staring at her as she moved while not moving its own body.

She slipped out the door and began to sprint down the hall when she slid to a stop. There were dozens of them, gliding around aimlessly. Some were drifting through the walls, some just sauntering around in circles. It took her a moment to begin moving through them, but she hadnt taken three steps when they all turned and stared at her, unmoving. She swallowed hard and tried to move but something was now holding her in place. A shadow rested on her shoulder and she suddenly got very very cold. Nausea set in instantly but before her body could react she was absorbed by light...*

*She woke up, in her bed. She had figured it to be another nightmare, except all the lights were on that she had turned on in her 'dream' and her gun was on the floor in the other room...

She had never packed her things faster in her LIFE. Everything gathered and she was in the shuttle in ten minutes. Hands dancing over the holographic display as the ship blasted out of the hangar, she decided that that was enough seclusion for the time being...*

Re: Skip 5

*Weaving the shuttle closer and closer to skip 5, Seamus was just starting to figure the small ship out when it slid into a small open area and the skip itself loomed up in front of the ship. Pulling back smoothly on the throttle he brought the ship to a near standstill and began scanning the rock face, looking for the right tunnel, because if you picked the wrong one, you'd more than likely end up as smear marks in a dead end. Locating the correct tunnel via several markings that were nearly indistinguishable from the rock face after being left alone for who knows how long. Easing the throttle forward, he pulled the ship into the tunnel and leveled it out, gliding through the twists and turns on the shuttle's repulsors before coming out in a fairly small hangar inside the skip.

Setting the shuttle down softly, Seamus began the shutdown procedure and scanned the hangar area out of habit, noting the two other ships, neither of which was Myranda. No, it would have been stupid to leave a ship like that sitting out in the open. So Seamus had bought a private docking facility on the other side of the skip, and that was where he expected to find Myranda. After all, the place had been sealed since they left her there. Rising from the pilots seat, he headed for the door and hit the release before turning to grab his duffel's and face the shuttle's occupants.*

Re: Skip 5

*Everything you want to keep├óÔé¼┬ª

Well, that was pretty easy. Other than the clothing on her back, the stuff in her pockets, and her droid? She didn├óÔé¼Ôäót have anything ├óÔé¼╦£else to keep├óÔé¼Ôäó.

Blaze unbuckled herself and rose from her seat, stretching out her stiff limbs. RT-10, fondly called ├óÔé¼╦£Arty├óÔé¼Ôäó, bobbed just beside her, still silent as the grave. It was unusual for the little machine. Most of the time, the young Hapan girl couldn├óÔé¼Ôäót get him to shut up. Brushing a lock of long blond hair from her face and tucking it behind one ear, she followed Seamus through the shuttle, swiping Arty from the air and tucking him under her arm.

He hated it when she did that. But if Blaze knew Arty, he├óÔé¼Ôäód protest s--*

├óÔé¼┼ô...Release me! I am not a purse to be handled!├óÔé¼┬Ø *he cried shrilly, jittering his spherical body.*

*Blaze smiled, satisfied at the reaction.* ├óÔé¼┼ôWell, at least I know you can still talk,├óÔé¼┬Ø *she muttered down at him.* ├óÔé¼┼ôYou├óÔé¼Ôäóve been so quiet since├óÔé¼┬ªy├óÔé¼Ôäóknow. I thought your little beat-box thing had been damaged in the fire.├óÔé¼┬Ø

├óÔé¼┼ôHmph! It is a voice receptor,├óÔé¼┬Ø *Arty said loftily, his tinny voice resonating in time with the pulses of his green eye-sensor,* ├óÔé¼┼ônot a ├óÔé¼╦£beat-box├óÔé¼Ôäó.├óÔé¼┬Ø *He made an irritated sort of mechanical bleep.*

├óÔé¼┼ôOf course it is,├óÔé¼┬Ø *Blaze sighed, voice bored. She swallowed, licking her lips a little. They still tasted like fire. Ash. Smoke. Everything she hated. But the ride through the asteroid field had lightened her mood a bit. She├óÔé¼Ôäód always loved roller-coasters and speed-races. That feeling when your insides dip as the shuttle rolls and swoops about├óÔé¼┬ª It sent her adrenaline running. Which could actually be dangerous, given that the fires seemed to respond to emotions and changes in her mood. But the experience had gone by without so much as a spark. It made her all the more happy for it.*

├óÔé¼┼ôSeamus?├óÔé¼┬Ø *Blaze was following right on his heels.* ├óÔé¼┼ôIf we├óÔé¼Ôäóre not coming back for the shuttle, what are we leaving in?├óÔé¼┬Ø

Re: Skip 5

*As the shuttle doors opened Kurlair silently blessed his luck for not being a human in this profession, or else he would have been sick. All those swoops and sudden turns in such a small ship made his head slightly dizzy. Normally this didn't happen when they visited the Run, but normally they were in a real ship.

After stepping out of the craft Kurlair rummaged under his seat to make sure there wasn't some random piece of equipment or something that he might need later under there before walking over towards the back of the shuttle. There he grabbed the toolkit from its little niche and stowed it under his lower right arm before turning to follow Seamus.*

"We're leaving with Myranda." [action:g8m4eiig]Seamus said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. And it was, to himself and Kurlair. Seamus watched as both Crysta and Denderikk stepped out of the shuttle into the stifling heat of the skip 5. The heat didn't affect Seamus or Kurly, but on most humans it was worse than being on tatooine at high noon, mostly because of the lack of airflow and wide open spaces. And while Denny's reaction was only barely perceptible, no doubt because of being raised on tatooine, Crysta had no reaction at all. Like she was just as immune to the heat as Seamus and Kurly. Filing that observation in with everything else about the girl that didn't add up, Seamus hefted his bags and turned to head deeper into the asteroid.[/action:g8m4eiig] "Come on, she's over this way. Let's just hope the apartment is still intact." [action:g8m4eiig]Seamus had purchased an apartment with an adjacent docking facility on skip 5 specifically because of the heat. It meant that looters and thieves were disinclined to stick around and search for valuables like a stashed starship and the contents of the apartment. But it didn't mean that all of them would take a hike before finding the apartment. And the fact that it had been several years didn't help alleviate Seamus' concerns.[/action:g8m4eiig]

Re: Skip 5

*Quietly muttering to himself Kurlair tapped on the buttons on his wrist comlink, digging deep into it's databanks to find the map of the skip he had stowed away years ago. He could probably find his way to Myranda without help, but he didn't like the idea of getting lost. Once he had pulled up what he was looking for he hustled after Seamus and Crysta until he was even with them.*

[action:1iqqtvnc]The heat was suffocating.

Blaze couldn├óÔé¼Ôäót feel the temperature, as it were, but she could feel the air as it moved around her. It was heavy, arid. The kind of heat that made your nostrils burn and your tongue get all dry and puffy. She could feel it move down her throat as she yawned widely, sucking moister from her inner tissues. She coughed a little.

RT-10 drifted beside her, flickering his green sensor-eye from side to side.
Kurlair and Seamus were to her right. The rock man thundered forward determinedly. Seamus glided with a sort of serene confidence. Blaze marveled silently at the contrast. So different, yet so very comfortable with it.
Denderikk was to her left, just as quiet as she was, but his face was alight with interest. He had a smooth walk, not quite as graceful as Seamus, but far more balanced that Blaze├óÔé¼Ôäós after that ridiculous asteroid-dodging ride.

Ridiculously fun, but ridiculous none the less.[/action:1iqqtvnc]

[action:1iqqtvnc]Startled, it was all she could do not to shriek. She froze in her steps, eyes wide as saucers.

Surely, she├óÔé¼Ôäód imagined it. Yes. She├óÔé¼┬ªyes, she had to have imagined it. Blaze watched the backs of Kurlair, Seamus, and Denderikk ahead of her. They didn├óÔé¼Ôäót know. They couldn├óÔé¼Ôäót know, she├óÔé¼Ôäód been careful enough. Her alias-name was spotless, they├óÔé¼Ôäód never be able to track her true name from there.

She hesitated for the smallest of moments before starting forward again, hoping no one had noticed her momentary pause. The voice echoed through her head, dark, probing. It didn├óÔé¼Ôäót sound like a normal voice. More like something out of a dream.
The faster she walked, the faster it diminished, and when another minute went by without a whisper, she relaxed a little.[/action:1iqqtvnc]

"Yeah, you're probably right." Seamus conceded as they rounded a corner and the door to the apartment came into view. It didn't appear to be tampered with, the lock was still intact and the fine coating of dust in front of the door meant no one had been in the apartment for a while. Which was good because Seamus and Kurlair hadn't been there in years. Reaching the door, he tapped in the correct key combination on the security pad, which analyzed his fingerprints as he put in the code, and the door slide open to reveal the entryway of the apartment. Wincing at the loud screech the door made, Seamus stepped into the apartment, leaving footprints in the layer of fine dust that coated the floor, and everything else in the suite.[/color:3ujlzsia] "I wonder what happened to the cleaning droid..."

The question was answered moments later when he walked into the small kitchen to discover the chassis of the droid piled in a heap on the floor where it had apparently ran out of power after neglecting to recharge. Shaking his head at the droid's dedication, Seamus proceeded through the kitchen and into the living area, which was arranged with a long couch and coffee table facing a large transparisteel panel that looked out into one of the asteroid's large natural caverns, an open space more than a hundred meters across with a tunnel leading out into the asteroid field itself. And just below the level of the window floated 'Myranda', a YZ-775 extended freighter, her starboard docking arm extended and latched onto the apartment's lower level docking ring. A smile grew across Seamus' face as he leaned against the transparisteel and ran his eyes over the ship.[/color:3ujlzsia] "It's been far too long."

Re: Skip 5

*Kurlair moved the gear he was holding into a more comfortable position as he walked through the door, closely followed by Denderikk and his droid. The Vaathkree shook his head at the now useless hulk of metal sitting in the kitchen. He felt like he should have known this would happen when the salesman had said that it was a fanatical cleaner. Oh well, at least it had done its job for a while. After a quick glance around the apartment he joined his captain by the window.*

"Hello beautiful."

They lingered and waited, not sure how to begin, so they waited for her. As she walked, her shadow crossed over others as the lighting in the hallways played. But she didnt have just one shadow, for some time now she had three. In was only when she stopped did her shadow begin to act panicked, acting as though she were trapped in a coffin, pounding on the walls to escape or to alert someone to her plight. But it was just a shadow, right?
The shadows that followed along began to devour the Woman's, tearing it to shreds little by little until it was no more, it had disappeared leaving nothing to guard her from them. And so they lingered and waited, unsure how to continue. As she walked they whispered into her ear*

<< Blaze? No. You are just a blaze. a fire that burns... >>

*They had not begun yet, for it was still playtime*

Blaze licked her lips, scratching at an imaginary itch on the side of her head. Feeling exceptionally stupid, she fell silent, casting her gaze around for Arty and hoping her cheeks didn├óÔé¼╦£t look as warm as they felt. The little droid was zooming enthusiastically through the apartment, emitting high-pitched birdlike chirping sounds. She rolled her eyes but couldn├óÔé¼Ôäót help smiling. She knew he hated being restrained, so she├óÔé¼Ôäód let him out from under her arm as they├óÔé¼Ôäód entered the suit. Now, like a bird out of its cage, she wondered if she├óÔé¼Ôäód ever catch him.

An oppressive heat, very different than the atmosphere outside the apartment, seemed to bear down upon her from the shadows. *[Narration]Sulfur. Its an odd smell, bitter and sour. Its a smell that is oddly reminiscent of hell Came a cry from somewhere, a voice that was strangely familiar. Faint, but a mere shadow, a whisper in the woman's memory and only in her memory. It would be another whisper from that familiar voice in her ears that would grab her attention as her name began rattling around in her head It was an innocent enough whisper that echoed through the hallways, and it came from every direction. It kept whispering her name as if it were all too familiar a name, the voice that continued to pour forth the alluring words was drenched in shadow as it begged to remain hidden and yet wished to be found. Only she could here it as it was apart of no one's reality but her own, it was a reality that was being stitched together half by the brothers, and half by her memories that remained so vivid in her mind.*

Seamus was about to push off the transparisteel viewport and head for the apartment's lower level and the ship access when an all too familiar feeling suddenly washed over him. Something was wrong. "Kurly... Do you feel that?" He already knew what the answer would be, but he had to ask to let him know something wasn't right. Kurly never got the feelings Seamus did, except when things got really bad. But that was instinct kicking in, this was something different.

Pushing off the glass, Seamus stood stock still in front of the viewport and focused, concentrating on his senses one at a time as they gathered the data from his surroundings, using his training and the force to push them beyond normal limits. He started with smell. The stale air of the apartment, Kurly's perpetual scent of... nothing. The dust that had been kicked up as they all walked in, the burnt smell that seemed to cling relentlessly to Crysta. Crysta. There was something else there too. Emotion... Fear. The unmistakeable smell of fear.

Seamus spun in place until he faced her, his eyes taking in every detail as he did. Her posture, tense. Her face, blank. He focused again, this time on hearing. Her heartbeat was racing.
"Crysta, what's wrong?" When she didn't respond he raised his voice and tried again. "Crysta!"

Curse Seamus and his force connection, always able to see to hear things that he couldn't. Crysta seemed to be a little tense, but that might just be from what the boss man had just said. Or maybe not.*

"Something's not right. Remember that time on Oovo IV? When we dropped off those supplies for the inmates because they had a 'kink' in their normal supply lines? Same deal." The incident to which he was referring had taken place roughly three years ago, and the 'kink' in the supply lines had been engineered by one of the more popular inmates. The plan was to kill the new supply couriers, which would be easier when they weren't guards, hence the plan to force the guards to hire outside help. The only reason the plan hadn't worked was because Seamus had gotten one of his feelings about a guard that had been 'coerced' into helping with the scheme, via the threatening of his family. Long story short, he ended up confessing about the bomb in the supply tunnel and the disaster was narrowly averted.

Tell them she was hearing voices and set herself up for the loony-bin? Or lie (again), and hope whatever she was experiencing would go away once they left the Skip? *Lame.*

├óÔé¼┼ôThat, and I├óÔé¼Ôäóm not relishing the idea of flying anything through that asteroid field again. Rough ride.├óÔé¼┬Ø

*Lamer. She├óÔé¼Ôäód never looked more thrilled on the way in.*

Re: Skip 5

Seamus had heard a lot of lies in his time, but few had been more blatant and obvious than those Crysta was telling right now. For one, it was still warm in the apartment. Just as warm as outside. But she had referred to the heat of the skip in the past tense, which led him to believe that she didn't feel it anymore than he did. Especially with he lack of reaction right after stepping off the shuttle. The only difference between the apartment and the rest of the skip was a lack of humidity. And he was pretty sure he'd heard a squeal of delight as they were twisting through the asteroid field. "That fear isn't because of a headache or a 'rough ride'. Something else is going on here, and you're going to tell me what it is."
