I always felt like there was a bottom and if I just kept falling, perhaps the ground would meet me with a bittersweet kiss...
*As Dae-suh cut his way free from the thorn vines, wither-arched sacred trees, and bristle bushes, a cascade of rain wet sunshine met his tired face and he felt, for the first in a long time, the cake of soot and mud that checkered his wretched facade. Nothing much covered his body; just the tattered business suit of a man once invested in economics, but his eyes glared with the scraping stubbornness that only a man put to task could comprehend. His right hand held a rusty etched parang, the other grappled at the iron tip of the old hammer nestled between his pants and belt. But the view he found from his person was far more important than the mortal tools that rested against his palms.*
*Villages as far as the eye could see spanned from tree to tree, and yet so difficult to discern lest the viewer truly focus. Dae-suh knew these sort of people, he had dreamed a dream and they had play the starring role. They were the warriors and he was the pauper, one to hardly meddle in their affairs: though he knew how they would fair. As did she.
Hanging shrubs and high canopy trees made way for little light to break into the large tree city, but the smell of food, sweat, blood and culture hung in the air. Something Dae-suh couldn't fathom from the viewing of a holonews network projection but now that he was here, could not believe such things escaped his senses.
He had once felt a wish inside him, to see the darkness and nothing else. To no longer...be. Perhaps this purpose of his that he was set about could serve something more, if not to just past the time.*
*Breaking away from thought, he proceeded down through the city. The doors were open, the universe just over the edge, waiting to pour in. He would play the silent keeper of the Epicanthix. To all others, he would be just another lost soul. But in the game, in the story to be told, he would do so much more.*
