Re: Open Orbit

*The Legion was rocked with each impact, though the shots from the Tempest were enough to keep the brunt of the attacks from critically damaging the Vic-II.. which was essential, since the Corruption's Darkness was still on board and could not afford to be lost.*

*A third of the StarVipers had been taken out of the fight by this point, and that seemed to give off another signal to the rest of the ships. The Bes'uliike that had been coated in the blue substance suddenly came back to life, turning and reentering the field of combat. They did not join their "comrades", however; when they opened up with their weapons, their shots were aimed at the Mandalorian fighters and at the station itself.*

:: Every fighter you lose becomes one of ours. ::

*A new voice entered the comm channel at that point -- or, rather several new voices. The Corrupted Mandalorians spoke as one..*

:: You cannot hope to win this. Sha'kajir, Terral. ::

Re: Open Orbit

*Terrals face paled at the sound of his pilots chorusing as one. Their odd voices in harmony stating the futility of the task in front of him. A lesser man may have baulked at what he had to order. Not Terral.
He signalled for a comm channel to the pilots be opened. The remaining pilots anyway.*

=Captain Terral=
:: This is Terral. All remaining fighters are to consider any Bes'uliike in blue an enemy and traitor to the vode. They are to be destroyed with no mercy. No quarter. Oya Mando'ade! ::

*He signalled for the comm to be closed and turned with a heavy heart to the viewport as the bridge officers exchanged worried glances behind him..*

*In space the battle had died down somewhat into the slugging match it had promised at the start. The fighters, reduced in number by over a third on each side, the third now less than a quarter for the attackers due to their assimilation of the Bes'ulike, had adopted a more cautious approach to each other. They had formed fighter screens preventing each other from attempting strafing runs on the capital ships and station.
Things were now at an impasse with the station isolated behind its remaining fighters and the Star Destroyers intent on ponding its powerful shields.

Reinforcements had arrived for the defenders in the shape of a battered frigate and its fighter compliment. Not nearly enough but a start. The frigate brought extra turbolasers and powerful ion cannons to the game and had stationed itself to the side of the station with enough distance between them to avoid the massive web of energies passing back and forth.

An ion blast, aimed at the Star Destroyer Legacy, passed through a four-fighter formation of blue-shrouded Bes'ulike as they drifted across the battlefield. The blue covering seemed to tremble as if injured by the contact and started to shrink back. Seeming to bleed from the Beskar hull and dribble off to dissipate in the void, the blue infection ceased to hold the fighter, or its pilot, in thrall.
Engines stuttering back to life the pilot immediately sent his craft into a spin and dash back to its own lines. Calls of "I'm free. I'm free" disappeared as a turbolaser blast consumed the fighter in firey inferno.
The incident hadn't gone unnoticed by the leaders of the station, however, and serious thought was put into this new development.

Meanwhile the stalemate continued with the station isolated...*

*The remaining fighters allied with the Harbinger Fleet, instead of attempting a strafing run on the Space Station Trabalhar, opened a comm channel again.*

:: Captain Terral, this is a pointless waste of the lives of many Mando'ade. Stand down and let us pass. We merely seek passage to the surface. ::

*A single Lambda-class shuttle launched from the Flag Hangar of the Legion, surrounded by six StarVipers and four of the captured Bes'uliike. It slowly moved through space, its fighter escort in constant motion around it, making sure that at least one fighter was always between it and the Trabalhar.*

:: Let our shuttle land on the surface, and we will withdraw without further conflict. Attempt to engage our shuttle, or continue this fight, and we will be forced to take extreme measures. We will sacrifice ourselves, make no mistake, but we would prefer not to. ::

*The Tempest ceased its defensive turbolaser screen around the Legion and oriented itself towards the Trabalhar, making its sacrificial intentions clear.*

:: The choice is yours. ::

Re: Open Orbit

*Terral looked at the comm unit as if it were a snake rearing up to sink poisonous fangs into his hand before reaching forward to activate the transmit toggle.
He had nothing to lose by letting the shuttle to the surface, especially if the invaders stuck to their word and departed afterwards. One shuttle wouldn't be a match for the troops on the planet. It was only here, in orbit, that they were over-matched.
He hit the switch.*

:: Attention alor'ad be Legacy. What guarantee's do I have that your fleet will quit the field once your shuttle is down? ::

*He hated yielding to demands, even when it seemed that he had no choice. The silence around the bridge showed that the officers around him knew it was a difficult choice and envied him not the decision.
If the ships lowered their sheilds and falled back once the shuttle was away he'd accept their terms.

What harm could one shuttle do...?*

*The shields of both Star Destroyers shut down in response to Terral's query, and the Legion began its comparatively slow turn away from the battlefield, while the Tempest did not change its orientation.*

:: We will withdraw from the field of battle; however, we will not be leaving the system until our shuttle has completed its mission and returned to us. Upon its successful retrieval, we will leave Algara II without further conflict, and we will return the stolen fighters if you so wish. ::

*At that, the Tempest also turned and oriented itself after ther Legion, which had already fired its engines and begun moving away from the Trabalhar. The shuttle flew towards the planet, surrounded by its ten-fighter escort, carrying with it the Darkness of the Corruption.*

:: Uphold your end of the bargain, and we will honor ours. ::

..For now. We will be back for this planet, but our mission here today is simple. And next time, you will join us without hesitation.

Re: Open Orbit

*Terrals face registered his surprise at the offer to return the stolen fighters and he peered across at the lead Star Destroyer as if he could divine the details of the aforementioned mission the enemy shuttle would be undertaking.
he knew he wasn't in a real position to negotiate any terms better than those he was now under and counted himself lucky that he and his men hadn't come off far worse...

His eyes sought out the sensor officer who nodded his head slightly before speaking.*

=Sensors=
"Both ships have powered down weapons and shields. They're starting to fall back out of range of the station."

*Terral nodded absently as he turned back to the viewscreen. Both ships were starting to shrink in the view and most of the fighters on both sides were standing down.
His eyes found the shuttle heading towards the planet with its fighter escort.
One shuttle...*

=Captain Terral=
"Status of our fighters?"

*The sensor operator turned back to his station and rattled off the losses and damage. Not too bad considering the level of opposition. His eyes narrowed at the report of five fighters 'commandeered' and his right hand flexed before closing into a fist.
Subverted...*

=Captain Terral=
"Recall all fighters and have them re-fuel and re-arm. Stand down from general quarters and get me a damage report on the station. All personnel to remain on alert and get me some answers on those weapons. There must be some similarity with conventional weaponry somewhere in their make-up. They can't just be spitting at us!"

*He finally turned away from the panoramic view of space and took three short steps to the communication station. Looking over the comm officers shoulder he nodded to the screen.*

=Captain Terral=
"I want channels to the planet and to Concordian Command within an hour, I don't care what problems you've been having. Get them fixed. For now open a channel to the lead Star Destroyer."

*She turned to he terminal and started punching keys before giving him a wave indicating the channel was open.
He cleared his throat.*

=Captain Terral=
:: I was unaware that you wished to complete a mission here in our system. There was no prior communication to that effect which was why we viewed your presence, and aggressive actions, as a threat and invasion of our system... ::

*His face creased as he scowled and a bit of steel crept into his voice as he continued.*

=Captain Terral=
:: There are far better ways to go about your business that this, ner tat. May I suggest a little forethought in the future when seeking a goal in someone else's backyard... ::

*His voice took on a dry mocking tone. He knew they were in an untenable situation. His people knew they were in an untenable situation. He just hoped that the enemy, (Enemy? Hell, he had no idea who these people were!), didn't know how venerable the defenders were.
He glanced up at the retreating Star Destroyers again, thinking on the phrasing of his next question. He decided to forgo a question and try another tack to seek information about this so-called mission.*

=Captain Terral=
:: As for this mission your shuttle is undertaking... Perhaps if you gave me some details we could be of assistance in your endeavor? ::

*The two Star Destroyers halted their advance out of the system, then turned and began moving in geosynchronous orbit with the planet.*

:: Our tactics have served us well in the past. We are ever-changing, but when a method works, it is wise to employ it often. ::

*The shuttle hit the atmosphere then, and the four Bes'uliike broke off, returning back into orbit, heading for the Trabalhar.*

:: Our mission does not require assistance. You will know its results soon enough. ::

*The comm channel closed..*

Re: Open Orbit

*He looked down at the comm unit as if he were about to strangle it. That or attempt to swim across the channel to the Star Destroyer and strangle the speaker. With the channel closed it would be a hard job. Hard job? Swimming over a comm channel? Bloody hell what am I on about? Sorry readers.
*Coughs*
His face a mask of anger and frustration he turned to look at the two capital ships that were easing into orbit in, what he thought of, a leisurely and unhurried manner.*

"As if they own the kriffing place..."

*He muttered under his breath.

Swinging away from the viewport he looked to the bridge crew of the Trabalhar, his eyes narrowed as he tried to make sense of what he should do next. An excellent field commander for a squad of ori'ramikade he was an indifferent student of tactics and strategy when it came to fleet actions. He had found himself out of his depth from the start but was as stubborn and determined as the next Mando'ade.
He paced a few steps then swung back around to face the sensor operator.*

=Captain Terral=
"Scan those Bes'uliik fighters and quarantine them when they dock. I don't want any risks to the station. Keep an eye on those destroyers and order a squad of fighters to match their orbits and relay us sensor feeds. I don't want them to be able to slip more ships down the well.

*He paused a moment as he turned back to the viewport in time to see the icon of the enemy shuttle, displayed on the Heads Up Display over-lapping the view, disappear into the atmosphere.
He turned to the comm officer and raised his eyebrow.*

=Comm Officer=
"We have a channel open to the planet. Things are confused down there due to the Xan riots. Captain Trask hasn't been seen for some time. Presumed dead. I have a Sergeant Rav here who is in charge of the Algarine troops. Still nothing from Concord Dawn.

*Terral blew out a sigh and nodded his acknowledgement.
He gestured to a free desk and sat, inserting an earpiece.*

=Captain Terral=
"Patch me through to Rav..."

*Things settled down in space as the Terral awaited word from Concord Dawn and informed Rav of the developments. Meanwhile the Star Destroyers lurked in orbit, their mission in the hands of the shuttle below....*

*Farther out in the system, to far for sensors to detect the incoming ships, and vice versa, two Gladiator-class Star Destroyers exit hyperspace, and begin to re-orient themselves for their final hyper-space jump.*

*The Communications officer set the hyperwave transceiver to tight beam mode, and punched in the Tablahar's co-ordinates, and sent a short message, requesting that the station respond in kind, via a tight beam instead of the usual broadcast method, and that an update on the current situation be given and, if possible, a live sensor feed be sent.*

*The Arild and Vigge continue to move into position for the next jump, and power up their shields. Neither of them can tell anything is wrong in system, though that is expected due to their unusual staging point, at the edge of the system. So far out that Algar is only just barely noticeably closer than the other stars of the galaxy.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Terral paced the command salon. There had been no contact from Concord Dawn and, more worrying still, contact with the planet below was sporadic at best. He had squads of technicians working on the problems but all of them were baffled by the black-out. Several of the so-called experts were heatedly discussing the problem at the far side of the bridge and Terral slowed his pace as he neared them.*

=Tech one=
"I'm telling you, it must be a self replicating virus of some sort!"

*The small, balding man, with a ridiculous wisp of hair draped across his shiny pate, thrust his chin out belligerently to a tall skinny man that seemed to have a permanent squint.*

=Tech two=
"If it was a virus the security systems and safe-guards would have alerted us."

*The nasal voice of the skinny tech made Terral grit his teeth in annoyance. Just the sound of the mans voice made the Mandalorian commander want to beat the man with a Rancors forearm... repeatedly.*

=Tech three=
"Perhaps its a mechanical problem after all. Possibly something to do with the attack?"

*The third tech, a severe looking woman with her hair tied in a bun so tight Terral was surprised her skin hadn't split, offered her diffident opinion as the frustrated warrior turned and stalked back towards the viewports.
It was obvious these fools didn't have a clue what was going on around them OR within the comm system.

He was about to order them off his bridge when the comm operator sang out.*

=Comm Operator=
"Incoming message, Captain!"

*Terral spun away from the view of the planet below and nearly ran to the operators side.
Looking over the mans shoulder he frowned at the text message displayed there.
The operator, divining his Captains next question, explained.*

=Comm Operator=
"Hyperwave link, sir. we still have no active comm but it appears tightbeam transmissions are still able to get through... *He paused for a moment as he hit a few keys.* The sensor feeds are out of the question. Not enough band-width for the package."

*Typical. Yet some good news, at least.*

=Captain Terral=
"Send a reply informing them of our situation and requesting they set up defensive positions flanking the station. Also, send a tightbeam message to Algarine command informing them of our new mode of communication and ask them for an update on the situation down there."

*He watched as the bridge crew sprang into action. At last they had something to do.*

Re: Open Orbit

*At the edge of the system, the Arild and Vigge are in position to make the last junp into system, they now await their commander's orders.*

*The lieutenant quickly reads the message, his body language shifting from confidence to horror, as he reads all that has happened in local space.*Two highly modified Victory-class Star Destroyers, arrived in system and refused to comply with Terral's orders to stand down. Terral ordered his men to open fire, and thus began a shirt but bitter engagement. The enemy fired what appeared to be ion cannons at the fighters and station, but the shots .... the shots devoured whatever they hit. Shields were marginally effective against them, but once the shields dropped, the fighters were consumed by a web of glowing blue, the same pattern covering the two Vics. They have called for a cease fire, and now .... an enemy shuttle has been sent to the surface, though it's purpose is currently unknown. Both ships appear to be in a geosynchronous orbit, directly over the shuttle's LZ, and out of range of the Station.

*The pilots are quickly briefed and then scrambled to their respective fighters. Forty-Two X-83 twintail starfighters launch form the two Gladiators, and begin forming up, by squadron, above or below their mother ship.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Prudence had dictated dropping out of hyperspace at the edge of the system. Or perhaps it was the Force that had insisted upon this course of action. Maybe it was just pain luck. It didn't really mean anything of importance to the Jedi Knight sat behind the controls of his StealthX. All it meant was that he got a ring side view of the flotilla deploying for their final jump into the Algara system.

Joshua's X-Wing drifted, powered down and disguised from the Mandalorian ships, with Algara's star a thumbnail-sized orb to his starboard side. Te Jedi himself watched the deployment with interest. So the reports of unrest on Algara II were true. The Mando's wouldn't have scrambled this much firepower for nothing. Still, the young Jedi Knight found it hard to believe they would need this kind of ordinance for a civil matter such as rioting and terrorism. Why the ships? Why the battle group? No. Something else was going on.

He had been told by the council to investigate possible Mando oppression and tyranny here in the Algara system and had immediately pointed out his reservations, much to the councils amusement. Never one to hold his tongue he had called the Masters on the folly of angering the Manalorians. He also found the idea of Can Vhett oppressing their subjects rather hard to believe...

He checked the chrono again and made sure his beacon was still transmitting. The beacon would mean his comrade would come out of hyperspace right on top of him. Right about...*

Re: Open Orbit

*Not knowing, the young jedi Knight was in trouble allready. His beacon endangering has bacon. The singal was cought, and not by the Mandalorians, even worse... A sith listening post had picked up his jedi frequency beacon and decided to send a force to investigate and capture the jedi. The sith were not stupid, a beacon would only mean a small force, otherwise, the message would have been well decrypted and sent on a naval chanel. No, this was jedi matter, and that usually meant a single jadi group. Preferably a Jedi and a padawan...

The Vicyory Class Star destroyer exited hyperspace right on the jedi, and were allready locked on his...*

"Ah crap..."

*The ugly class fighter exited hyperspace just to the starboard of the exwing. Syla, sitting upside down in her cockpit, hooked to her baby with a wire through her neck was enjoying her last slice of pizza and some Endorian Endo infused creativity, writing a short novel about Jedi Knight Hobbit Wayne-Kent Norris, the protector of the galaxy. All this ruinned by exit to hyperspace... bah...

Well, she was kinda surprised to get the call from Joshua, havent heard a lot from the Yavin folks for a good time, and the surprise was positive. its nice when folks think of you when they need a partner in crime, especially if its incredibly dangerous. So, she agreed at once and asked for details, then a couple of days to prepear. She needed to install a small sensor scrambler module on LEGO so he wouldnt be cought. Some of the corellian headmasters allready pissed at her... what? Shenanigans they called it? She bet they were thinking of an other Sh- word theyr noble mouthes would never take on the lip... bah, is it really wrong to try and have some fun once in a while? Why so god damned serious? Have a smile on that face!

Gees...

So she thanked Joshy for the chance to get some real work done and also to have anice and legitimate reason to leave corellia for a while.

The small fighter exited hyperspace. its curious and seemingly dangerous design was still the same, with one little change. There was a big plate like antenna right above the engines. The "Eyeball" of the salvaged TIE now looked like it had a small hat. The thing was ancient, like from the line of the first civilian sector scramblers ever to be realeased or something. In base, all it did was hide ones generator and engine sensory output... Other then that, the ship would look like a piece of space debris floating around in. So, she would have to make sure there are no well coreographed flight patters on this piece of junk if she doesnt want whoever controlling this place to know she is here.

She shot off the holo projection above her, that projected the words she was writing, and swung around, settling her feet on the pedals and her hands on the controlls.

She was wondering if she should comm Joshy first, or if he would just lead them down, and not to risk detection through comm chatter. She did see the small group of large ships on the ring side. Small gathered lights in the dark moving too fast to be stars.

She didnt want those to get closer.*

*...Now!

Joshua looked up a moment before the LEGO reverted to real space, a prompt from the Force alerting him to its impending arrival. The motley ship cruised over his inert fighter, slowing to a stop a few kilometers ahead and to the port-side. Joshua marveled once again at the rag-tag design of his friends ship and pondered the prodigious skill involved in keeping the hunk of junk from breaking up in the event of a stiff breeze.

He glanced at the monitor as Plug tweetled at him from the astromech socket.*

"Your right, pal..." *Came the laconic reply.* "It does look like the first time she's ever been on time."

*Syla wasn't renowned for her punctuality. "Unpredictably erratic" was one way to describe her. "Loose cannon" was another. Joshua postulated that between them Syla and himself coud be held accountable for mos of the gray hairs on Dav's head though the wrinkles on his face were all his own.

With deft hands he brought the StealthX online and fed power to the engines while activating a secure bandwidth comm channel direct to the LEGO with full encryption and hoped that Syla still had the decryption algorithm to decipher it.*

:: Dragon Ten to LEGO. Nice of you to drop by. ::

*He shunted power to the sublights and began a slow cruise to the final jump co-ordinates that would take them to Algara II.*

"Plug, send the jump data to the LEGO's computer direct. Lets not have Syla arguing with the computer about safe margins again."

*A cheerful tweet sounded behind as the astromech went about its work.

Joshua opened the channel again as the X-Wing drifted alongside the LEGO then led the way towards the planet.*

He kept half his attention on the battle group going about their business a few thousand clicks away but they seemed intent upon whatever plan they had in relation to the planet. He pondered comming them and asking the situation. There was no ill will between the Jedi and the Mandalorian at this time as far as Joshua knew but that didn't mean relations were cordial. *The Mando'ade were not as oblivious to the interlopers as they had seemed to be. The Jedi's beacon gave away his position quite readily, and his comm chatter with his wing was being monitored, closely. At the mention of sticking a nose into Mando business, a single flight of x-83's diverted from their original course and moved to intercept the two fighters, their s-foils locked into attack position, though it was a missile lock that, their targeting computers began acquiring on the two fighters. Two X-83's per unidentified fighter, coming in at them from their forward, above and to port. A communications officer aboard the Arild hails the fighters, using the same encryption and channel they had been broadcasting on. The response was a bit late, but the encryption had to be cracked before action could be taken one way or another, and it had nearly allowed the fighters to pass by without interference.*

Re: Open Orbit

*Joshua grumbled something that sounded rather like a Rancor clearing its throat as he pondered how little he knew about the situation before uttering a short...*

:: Hang on... ::

*HE frowned at the comm as another voice interrupted. He should have known they would be discovered. Ah well. They were too far ahead of the fighters heading their way. H opened the comm and spoke in a jovial and upbeat tone.*

:: Sorry, cyar'ika. No can do. We've got an appointment with a dog about a man.... or man about a dog. I forget which but I'm sure my lawyer knows... whoever he is. Thanks for your cooperation and time. I'm sure you look lovely tonight. Don't wait up. Love ya! ::

*He pulled back on the hyperdrive lever and watched as the stars elongated around the viewport. Not sooner had they stretched into lines they shrunk again into pinpricks and the blue/green orb of Algara II sat directly ahead. A few seconds later the LEGO burst from the void behind the StealthX and they started a slow, curving descent to bring them down on the nightside of the planet.

Joshua called up the data on the planet as he spoke, reciting what he had learned during the long trip from Yavin IV.*

:: I assume you know the basics. Capital city is Algarine. Native populace are the Xan. Been allied with the Mando's for quite some time but only under Clan Vhett for a year or so... ::

*He shrugged though the gesture was lost over the comm channels. With a steady hand and a deftness that spoke of his prowess as a pilot Joshua guided the fighter into the atmosphere, navigating by instruments as they were swallowed up by the cloud cover.*

:: As for the recent troubles we know very little. There's nothing on the holonet, though that's not surprising. Any insurrection would have been covered up by the government. The Mando's are just starting to emerge as a force again so they'll be reluctant to let anything indicate that they're not in complete control of their house. ::

*The fighter shook as they passed through some turbulance and Plug whined mournfully in his socket. A twitch of the stick and sure use of the rudder pedals soon smoothed things out and the Jedi resumed his narrative.*

:: Our sources came from a smuggler who has worked for us in the past. He got off planet just before the quarantine came into effect. Spoke of rioting in the streets and police firing on civilians. ::

*They dropped below the clouds and flew north over fair grasslands and wooded hills towards Algarine, hugging the ground to avoid detection.*

:: Asides from that we know nothing. ::

*He smiled as the city hove into view in the distance and they banked to land near the outskirts, avoiding the spaceport to the west.*

:: As for disguises.... I suggest you be yourself. ::

*He activated the repulsors and drifted in to land near a rocky outcropping that blocked the view of the city which sat, eerily quite, no traffic, a couple of miles away.*

:: One more disheveled, cocky, mouthy and tripped-out adrenaline junkie shouldn't attract too much attention. ::

*He hit the release on the canopy and stood, stretching his arms over his head and yawning mightily. With a gesture he indicated Plug should stay where he was and dropped to the ground. Turning he looked u as the LEGO cruised in.*
