Ok, so... Phrix has posted... when are the rest of them going to get around to it? I'd like to try and get at least one post in that HELPS the prisoners before Hevn and co. arrives... at the moment they are pretty screwed and I'd feel really bad if that's how it ends.

I've made the prison-break a priority as it affects others. I still have 1.5 essays (1700 words left in the 1 I'm working on now and 2000 in the 1 I haven't started) to write and everything must be handed up by the 11th of Dec.

Well, it would be lovely to have you back in the game. Though school is always a priority, obviously.

not long now... then I'll be back properly... that is unless I end up running as candidate for the political party I'm a part of now (Gamers 4 Croydon - we're trying to force the government to FINALLY give Australia an R18+ rating for video games).

Oh, that's right. Aussie gamers can't play the really gory ones, right?

Or they cull the game-content to fit the current highest possible rating (MA15+). Another issue is that games that are designed for adults are being played by 15+ year olds - even when the content is chopped, these games are still not designed for impressionable minds.

Three prime examples:
* GTA 4 - legally playable by 15 year olds. All that is missing is the blood and the ability to move the camera away from the back of a car when dealing with a prostitute.
* FALLOUT 3 - culled to fit Australian ratings, this cut version ended up being the standard for the world. Even after the cuts, the rest of the world rated it at a 17+ rating (or higher) - it's rated MA15+ here. Another game that 15 year olds can play.
* LEFT FOR DEAD 2 - gore, blood, dismemberment all gone - zombies now fade the moment they are 'killed' by the player/s... still playable by 15 year olds. Even the cut version in Germany is rated for an older audience.

Our system is screwed and it's long past time for a change.

Guess they like making things hard for the gamers.

and didn't we have an R18+ rating for games? i know San Andreas was R18+ at one stage but then they killed it slightly and changed it's rating (but i could be imagining that. i know it was at a higher rating tho at one stage)

You are mistaken about GTA:SA having an R18+ rating. We have never had an R18+ for games.. ever.

San Andreas was given a RC (Refused Classification - read: banned) rating after the Hot Coffee mod was 'discovered', but it (and all GTA games) was rated MA15+ before and after the debacle (when it was re-released).
There are occasions where you may see an 18+ classification on a game - this occurs when a game has been imported from the UK (mostly as there's no Australian distributor for that particular title) and the retailer has not bothered with applying the appropriate sticker over the one already on the sleeve.

Kids shouldn't have access to gore and high-impact violence as it is - but under the current system they do. The entire classification system in Australia needs an overhaul.

It's the principle... the copies that get released in Australia are censored and in some cases the server detects if you have a copy of a game that doesn't match your IP region and prevents you from connecting.. in even more serious cases, it "updates" your game to bring it in-line with the appropriate version for your IP region. It's censorship, plain and simple - and it doesn't need to occur.

Another thing to add to the list - not everyone games on their PC... I, myself, have a PS3 that I prefer to use as my primary gaming device and as yet there is no mod-chip or workaround for that console; yes I can buy games from other regions, but I shouldn't have to. Torrents don't solve every problem.

There's a lot more to this issue, more than I'm going to list here - just believe me when I say that the issue of game censorship is a big one and Australian gamers are sick of our elected officials ignoring us on the R18+ video game rating issue.

yeah forgot the little rodder's they've annoyed me enough to not deserve gore and violence, unless their parent's buy it for them. those little ungrateful kid's need a good kick up the choobies and banning from R18+ worthy material while we get to see body parts flying around, i think GOW would be way cooler with a bit more gore and violence!!!

It's been long enough. The prisoners who have failed to post in the last few weeks are now declared "fair game". I'm not saying that I will kill them, but if they die it's their own damn fault.
