The Painted Spat

*Neassa had arrived a day earlier than the Hutt seeking to employ her services expected her, using the day to, dressed in unmemorable civilian attire and with her long brown hair tied in a loose ponytail, case the cantina where she will be meeting with him to discuss the details of the job he hopes she will take on. Keeping to herself and ordering enough drinks that her surveillance should not draw any attention, Neassa memorized the layout of the cantina and selected three possible exit strategies. It is exceedingly unlikely that she will be needing any of them, but she has been trained to be thorough and is nothing if not a product of her training.

The Hutt she is meeting with is, as most Hutts are, difficult to miss, and she surreptitiously observes him and his security as well to determine how she would disable them if warranted. Neassa had wondered idly, and only briefly, who has engendered the ire of the Hutt as she watches him, ascertaining quickly enough that he seems a careful sort, less ostentatious than some Hutts she has worked for in the past. Satisfied with the fruits of her surveillance, Neassa had returned to her rented room and spent the remainder of the day readying herself for the meeting by studying maps of the city near the cantina and learning all she could about the city itself before cleaning her beskar'gam and weapons.

On the day of the meeting, Neassa garbs herself in her red beskar'gam, choosing to meet with the Hutt in it even though she seldomly wears the distinctive armor when completing a typical assignment since it would so readily provide any authorities with the beginnings of a trail to follow that might lead back to her. Prospective clients expect the armor, so Neassa wears it, the helmet also concealing her face from the client, which, coupled with the fact she has never used her true name for her work as a bounty hunter, means they can not identify her.*

*Neassa enters the Painted Spat and, the armor ensuring that, unlike the day before, she attracts plenty of attention, makes her way to the bar and, voice tinny and distorted by the helmet she wears, says simply and in Basic, :: Eldric is expecting me, :: and then waits to be taken to the Hutt.*

Qaestar Town - The Painted Spat

*Placing the datapad into one of the pouches on her belt without examining it's contents, Neassa answers the question about whether she needs anything else by saying,* :: I'll contact you once the job has been completed to arrange the final payment, :: *and then simply turning and exiting the cantina.* *If she hasn't been provided with enough intel to locate her target she can always contact the Hutt, but Neassa feels reasonably confident that he will have given her enough to do so.*

*After leaving the cantina Neassa makes her way to the spaceport where her GPE-7300 is docked rather than her hotel, taking a wandering, indirect route that allows her to determine that she is not being followed by any of the Hutt's people or the local authorities.* *She is relatively new to the bounty hunting business, but Neassa knows that there is a possibility that the Hutt may have some kind of surveillance on him.* *Removing her buy'ce after boarding her ship and making her way to the cockpit, Neassa takes her waist length hair out of the bun it had been in and runs her fingers through it before taking the datapad from it's pouch and dropping into the co-pilot's chair as she says,* "Su'cuy," *to Shuk'la, her FEG-series pilot droid. The droid, missing it's legs and needing a new vocabulator, doesn't answer, merely waving a hand, and Neassa smiles at it before settling in to familiarize herself with the information the Hutt has on her quarry; which proves to be less than what she would prefer but enough for her to determine what her initial strategy will be.* *The Twi'lek that she hunts has been hunting the Hutt's people, apparently seeking retribution for the death of his sister, meaning that if Neassa watches his likely targets she will, more likely than not, find him without needing to look for him at all.* *She can, Neassa thinks as she stands and walks aft from the cockpit after telling Shuk'la goodbye, always actively seek the Twi'lek if the plan fails or yields no fruit in a timely enough manner.

Exchanging her beskar'gam for loose fitting, non-descript civilian clothing including a lightweight trenchcoat, Neassa takes her EE-3 carbine - modified with a stock and scope for distance shooting - from a concealed storage compartment and, as she cleans and checks the rifle, narrows down which of the Hutt's to start watching over.*
*The intel from the CorSec agent the Hutt employs suggests that the Twi'lek's next target is likely to be one of three individuals - all involved to some degree with acquiring or managing the Twi'lek slaves in the Hutt's organization - and Neassa ultimately decides to watch over the male Gran that has been known to deal, unlike the Hutt himself, with illegal slavers and to keep some of the slaves he acquires for his own personal uses. According to the CorSec agent the murder of her target's sister went unreported and remains unsolved, making the Gran, in Neassa's estimation, the most likely candidate.*

*EE-3 concealed at her side beneath her trenchcoat and her hair secured in a ponytail, Neassa exits her ship, making her way from the spaceport to the area of the city the Gran maintains a residence in, intending to examine the layout of the streets and buildings surrounding his home to find an ideal point to set up her watch.*

Qaestar Town - Spaceport

*Her first surveillance of the Gran's home makes it clear to Neassa that establishing a stakeout will prove more challenging than she anticipated and, after returning to her ship to plot her next move, she briefly considers altering her strategy entirely. She considers, briefly, contacting the Hutt and informing him her best chance of terminating her target would be to set up in the Gran's home. The Hutt, however, has not hired her to provide security, but to eliminate the Twi'lek hunting the Gran; and so Neassa discards the idea after a moment's thought.

Neassa, then, had reviewed the information Eldrich's CorSec contact had provided about his agencies search for the Twi'lek to determine whether there were any investigative avenues they had overlooked which she might explore in an effort to track her quarry down. The Twi'lek has to be a rarity here on Talus and has to have somewhere to go to ground, but the possibilities are nearly limitless and she can see no way to narrow them down, and Neassa cannot think of any way to locate a single being amidst all those living or visiting Talus; leaving her back precisely where she began: staking out the Gran's home.

Her plan will require someplace to set up her watch that is close enough that, when the Twi'lek makes his inevitable play for the Gran, Neassa is able to make it to the residence quickly enough to prevent him from succeeding in killing his target. Her assignment does not require the Gran's survival, but Neassa sets the goal for herself all the same. The nearest location to the Gran's residence that fits Neassa's requirements is a high-rise hotel building located near enough to the Gran's estate that, with her jetpack, she will be able to arrive within moments of spotting her quarry. It will most likely be a far less subtle kill than she prefers, Neassa thinks as she begins to choose and pack the gear she thinks she will need, but the Hutt did not ask for subtle either.*

*When night falls several hours later, after booking a room that is on the side of the hotel facing the Gran's estate and moving in, Neassa, dressed in her beskar'gam and wearing her jetpack is inside the room with her electrobinoculars, scanning the grounds of the Gran's estate frequently. . .*

Re: Qaestar Town

*If she had waited a moment longer to go pee, Neassa might have missed what she assumes is her quarry go over the wall of the Gran's estate; as luck would have it, however, she had just returned from the loo and was scanning the grounds with her electrobinoculars when someone appeared at the top of the wall on the estate's eastern side briefly before dropping to the other side.*

*Putting her binocs down, Neassa picks up her helmet and rifle and then steps onto the balcony outside her hotel room - the chances of the figure she observed being anyone other than her quarry are slim to none, in her estimation; and if she is to eliminate him before he gets to the Gran she will have to move quickly. Her Z-6 jetpack should get her to the estate before the Twi'lek gets inside the residence, Neassa thinks as, stepping up onto the railing and then leaping outward before firing a three-second blast to get herself oriented on course - to avoid leaving any signs of the jetpack's firing on her deck, which would be a bit of evidence she would rather not leave behind.* *The Z-6 can be fired continuously for up to a minute in total, but Neassa, as the hotel balcony was higher up than the estate, uses a series of bursts to reach the eastern side of the estate instead, descending as she goes.*

*Dropping over the wall, Neassa lands in a crouch - the noise of her approach not a concern as the Gran's guards heading to look into the racket will only, she hopes, ensure they spot the Twi'lek and hinder his entrance into the residence - and lifts her rifle to her shoulder as she scans the grounds ahead for any sign of either her quarry or the Gran's guards . . .*

Re: Qaestar Town

*Even though she sees the Twi'lek reaching for his holstered blaster when she spots him, Neassa doesn't rush her shot, instead tracking him and getting a feel for his pace so that she can place her shot carefully enough that, in an ideal universe, she can call it a night as soon as it hits it's target. Then the floodlights come on and the rangefinder attached to her buy'ce alerts her to the fact that it has acquired two additional potential targets. Her helmet's macrobinocular viewplate has protected her night vision and so Neassa can see that her quarry has opted to turn for the house and is preparing to take out one of the new targets.* *Changing her own target, Neassa drops so she is laying on the ground on her stomach - the drop fortunately occurring just in time to prevent her from taking the burst-fire her new target sends towards her after rounding the house. After using her thumb to switch the carbine onto stun, Neassa keeps a portion of her attention on her HUD to keep tabs on the Twi'lek as she adjusts her aim to send a trio of blaster bolts from her EE-3 towards the Rodian - two for his chest followed by one for his legs.* *Nukpana's guards are not her concern, but, while she doesn't want to give them the chance to drop the Twi'lek, Neassa sees no need to kill them either.*

Re: Qaestar Town

*Seeing the Rodian fall, Neassa switches her EE-3 from stun to it's regular setting, rising from her prone position and swiveling her torso to track the Twi'lek that she is here to kill. Her HUD registers the additional potential combatants remaining inside the house after her target uses a grenade and takes out at least two of them, tracking the Twi'lek's movements as he leaps and, when he hits the ground and covers his head, fires a pair of blaster bolts for his center mass while keeping a fraction of her attention on her HUD to watch for any movement from within the house in case the remaining guards break from cover.*

Re: Qaestar Town

*Neassa watches as the Twi'lek tries to get up and bring his weapon in line for a shot, admiring his sense of resolve even as she tilts her head to the side and adjusts her aim to send a single shot towards the center of his head.* *She knows her quarry's motivations, can understand them and even appreciate them; but Neassa has been hired to do a job and has, while attempting to get into the head of her prey is at times necessary, never let sympathy make her question a job. The Twi'lek, like her, is a warrior, and made a warrior's choice.*

*As the bolt lances from her carbine, Neassa keeps a fraction of her focus on her HUD to maintain awareness of the guards inside the home.*

Re: Qaestar Town

*Neassa pauses for a moment, rifle set in her shoulder, to make sure that Nukpana's guards aren't making any move to engage her and then turns, letting the EE-3 hang from it's sling at her side, activating her jetpack to carry her over the wall surrounding the grounds of the estate.*

*Once outside the grounds, Neassa starts making her way out of the neighborhood, deciding to wait until she somewhere well away from the sounds of the approaching sirens before using her comlink to contact her FEG to have it pick her up. The successful completion of her mission doesn't leave her feeling particularly satisfied with her performance, nor was it very challenging. She would have preferred to have been able to locate the Twi'lek before he moved on Nukpana, but her decision to stake out the Gran's estate proved sound and so she does not spend too much time berating herself. Neassa suspects that another reason for the somewhat hollow feeling the assignment has left her with is that she can understand the Twi'lek's motivations; his cause was just, he simply made an enemy of her employer and executed his own assault poorly.*

*Watching her GPE-7300 descend for the upper level of the parking structure she had chosen as her retrieval point, Neassa removes her buy'ce, lifting her face to inhale the night air and then, after the transport's boarding ramp is lowered, boards the ship.

Taking her sweaty, waist length hair from the tight bun it has been in, Neassa shakes her head and enters the cockpit, instructing her FEG to return to the spaceport. Heading aft to her quarters, Neassa contacts Eldrich to inform the Hutt that her target has been eliminated and that she will meet him the following day to pick up the remainder of her payment.*
*The Hutt does not seem surprised, making Neassa think that Nukpana had already informed him of what transpired; which also more likely than not means she need not worry about any legal investigation into the events on the grounds. All well and good.*

*Once back at the spaceport, having changed from her beskar'gam into cargo pants, a t-shirt and a peacoat, Neassa cabs it to her hotel, checking the holonews for any report on the attack on Nukpana's grounds.* *The news reports that the Gran's guards killed an armed intruder, making no mention of her.

The next morning, after showering and returning to the spaceport, Neassa dons her beskar'gam and returns to the Painted Spat, landing her ship nearby so that she can leave Talus as soon as she has collected the remainder of her payment.*

*Inside the cantina, Neassa makes her way to the bar and requests to meet with Eldrich, stating she is expected.*

The Painted Spat

*Beneath her buy'ce, Neassa arches an amused eyebrow as the Muun just turns and leaves, not perturbed by the manner in which the final payment has been made.* *As a general rule, Neassa is not one for conversing with clients unless absolutely necessary and if the Hutt has the same principle it makes things easier on her.* *Taking the chest and carrying it at her side under an arm, Neassa leaves the cantina and returns to her ship. There is no reason to linger on Talus, so she instructs Shuk'la to take them into orbit after plotting a course for the Mid Rim.*

*Moments later, the GPE-7300 lifts off and ascends towards Talus' upper atmosphere and, from there, into orbit.*
